Cordillera Huayhuash is a mountain range in the Andes, south of the more famous Cordillera Blanca. The mountain chain is over 30 km long, the highest peak is the 6635 m high Yerupaja. Around the mountain group supposedly runs one of the world's toughest treks. Almost the whole time you are moving at altitudes between 4000 and 5000 m, on the entire route there is only one village, otherwise no mountain huts (or huts at all), so you sleep in a tent the whole time and have to carry all the food with you. Most visitors go on the trek in the organization of some agency, which eases logistics (something that's not for me If we want to circle the entire chain, the trek length - depending on which version we go - is somewhere between 100 and 130 km and lasts 8-10 days, some agencies stretch it to 12 or more. There are also shorter, 4-6 day variants that only do part of the route. So, doing it on your own requires some more organization, especially you have to know what you're getting into. The thing isn't simple, nor overly demanding. After all it's a trek, not some technical ascents (we treated ourselves to some "above-standard" extras The best time for a visit is in our summer (their winter there), as it's the dry season. On the other hand April/May is greener and with more flowers. I wrote a bit more than usual...mainly because I didn't find much Slovenian reports from this beautiful adventure https://trobec.blogspot.com/2022/07/andi-2022-cordillera-huayhuash.html
