With a colleague we spent time on the Canary Island La Palma, where we ran the 74 km long route of the Transvulcania ultramarathon: https://bojanambrozic.com/2017/04/27/kanarski-otok-la-palma/

In light of Bojan's astonishing feats, most of us can only feel awkward that we need a few days to repeat the Transvulcania route... But people have different motives for their travels.... some think the route needs to be run; others, especially those who will soon be 60, think we need to take some pics in between and capture moments for ourselves too...
I can supplement Bojan's description of the "big flowers" in pics 10 and 11. It's Echium wildpretii, or in Spanish "tajinaste rojo", which on Tenerife after abolishing grazing is reappearing in large stands, on La Palma they've been trying to replant it in recent years. On last visit in December my wife and I noticed a few dry stems right below the top of Roque de los Muchachos. Where Bojan caught them, I can only guess?
On Tenerife they don't bloom equally lush every year. In the same spot where there were hundreds the year before, only a few plants bloom...

next year they may bloom very little2

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know the Slovenian name for those flowers.

I saw those flowers right by the road at Rocques de los Muchachos, just above the forest line. And on La Palma grows a different subspecies than on Tenerife. On Tenerife I didn't see them either, because I was there in November. Obviously they bloom in spring.

Location of those flowers, if someone happens to go there: 28°46'02.9"N, 17°54'07.7"W
