7 Peaks of Stubai: Hoher Burgstall (2611 m)

On Friday I took advantage of the post-holiday free weekend's end and beautiful weather with my female colleagues and climbed the first among the seven characteristic peaks of the Stubai Alps, which represent the goals of the well-known circuit. Hoher Burgstall is indeed among the easiest reachable goals among the seven, but on the ascent from the valley (most probably take the lift to cca. 2000 m) the elevation gain is quite substantial and in the upper part some caution is nevertheless needed. We started walking in Neustift, one of the centers of the Stubai valley, and ascended a good 1200 m to the Starkenburger hut. The latter is famous for exceptional views (one of the rare places from which you can see all 7 franchise peaks of Stubai) and is very popular among cyclists, whom a relatively comfortable gravel road takes to cca. 2240 m. Classic. Maybe I'll return by bike, this time the goal was Hoher Burgstall, which rises above the hut and to which from Starkenburger Hütte it's only less than an hour's walk. The path is not particularly demanding, but over some steep passages in the upper part fixed cables help us. Just before the summit we unfortunately had to abandon the original idea to traverse along the wide ridge in the direction of the northern path, by which we usually ascend when shortening the path with the cable car, to Little Burgstall and round off the trip; on the other side there gaped a very steep snowfield, which still covers the secured path in the upper part, but winter gear I had only I. On the summit the views on a crystal clear day were splendid and the visit quite substantial. Due to the above-mentioned conditions we returned the same way after a longer stop at the hut, I then used the free time and warm-up for testing the new mountain bike on the pastures above Innsbruck. Wonderful and quite undemanding tour, which is just right for warming up before more demanding goals in the mountains. Hoher Burgstall offers a beautiful view towards Kalkkögel, the northern almost dolomitic ragged part of the Stubai Alps, mountains above the Oberbergtal valley and the central part of the range. On the described path nowhere is it necessary to step on snow. Description follows soon.

Perhaps I would allow myself to use the thread also for a piece of the Stubai Alps that I photographed last week, when I already introduced the interesting Stubai Alps. On the first visit to Neustift in wet weather I walked the short walking-hiking path Franz-Senn-Weg, which more or less successfully tries to document the achievements of the most recognizable villager. Some pictures of the Stubai forest emerged, which might ease someone's choice of vacation... even though the conditions were apparently uninviting; that's why all the more atmospheric.
