Across the hills of Slovenian Primorska

I've had the intention for a while to cycle through the hilly hinterland of Slovenian Primorska, and on Friday everything fell into place regarding time and suitable summer temperatures for such a tour. At 8:15 AM I was already starting from Portorož. The route took me further to Sečovlje salt pans - Dragonja - Krkavče - Koštabona - Šmarje - Križišče - Gažon - Kortine - Šared - Malijanski hrib - Korte - descent to Lucija. Locals say that there aren't many tourists on the plateau yet, but in season quite a few come up. The landscape is adorned with lots of olive groves, some vineyards and fruit trees plus fields for vegetables. The plateau up top after the first climb only gently rolls at 200-300m elevation, heat-wise it's incomparably better than by the sea, since a cooler wind always blows up here. Quite a few new houses have been built up there, but they say the communal fee is sky-high here, 50-70 thousand, before you can start building! At the Pr´ Malni inn I drank excellent local Refošk, with which they replaced the previous worse one from Vina Koper. The tour was experientially and landscape-wise very nice, not too hard (one of the easier for these km), takes 4h30min pure riding with 60 km covered. In the afternoon after the tour I drove to a friend in Koper, where we visited Riva Koper, refreshed ourselves with baked squid and girice, then we turned with interesting local Vojec for a drink, he then invited us to his boat, at the end of the day followed a refreshing swim at sunset. Next day with Uroš to Belvedere beach in his home Izola, but only for 2h, since long lounging on the beach for me is like a nightmare. Followed a nice walk through the old part of Izola. At home in the afternoon we baked a whole tray of fries Mediterranean style, marinated turkey cutlets and salad with tomatoes and peppers. After abundant lunch I was out on the couch for a good hour . Nicely spent weekend with lots of nice impressions and experiences, recommend .
