Beautiful sunny, holiday Sunday, perfect for rambling. Since obligations didn't allow a longer visit to the mountains, it came in handy also wandering along the former Rapallo border. A shorter hike (combined with drives) in the direction of Strane, Hruševje, Unška koliševka, Pivka discovered so far unknown to me (yet so close) impressive (unnecessary) creations of human hands. Pleasant, interesting and educational.

Yes, Nacek, you're right, the trip is not recommended for claustrophobes. Safe!? Well, fairly. Into parts that didn't seem safe enough we didn't enter, the rest by our judgment was safe enough for viewing. Of course, the safety assessment is a personal view of the given situation.

solist, I think this can be a very interesting trip. Tell more about the path ... - starting point, goal, the path itself, markings, approximate times, elevation along the path etc.

Well, Frenk45, I'll tell about our "expedition". Since we didn't exactly know what to expect, I wouldn't talk about time, because we quite "searched". All together it lasted from 11.00 start in Koper to 19.00 arrival in Koper. Of course we drove by car to Stran - village below Nanos. There we left the car and by the memory of a colleague, who saw the bunkers from the plane with which he was flying around there, we started searching where they should be. At that, shepherds (electric), which are full around there, hindered us. Well, from the village we went on the path towards Nanos and after cca. 200-300 meters behind the object of water intake (or something similar) turned right through the forest and over bzzzz bzzz electric shepherd and also over barbed wire continued straight uphill. On the smaller plateau you'll immediately notice the pile from the first photo. The entrance is almost under the top of the bunker and it is closed with "wooden doors", which are not locked. Maybe the most interesting bunker is in Unška koliševka. To there you get by turning right in Uncu at pizzeria Portus (if coming from AC) and continue on that road as long as it ascends, when the road (of course forest road - gravel) levels, you'll run into a concrete wall more visible on the right side and from that wall continue to the first branch where you turn right (down) and drive or walk to the sign that marks and explains Unška koliševka. Left of the sign a bit you have to descend the slope, there is the entrance to the bunkers (they have three or four other exits, one ends in a precipice - but it is nicely visible and there is no danger if you just look ahead). For easier access ask locals for Unška koliševka (because for bunkers they don't know well - at least those we ran into). One of the largest bunkers is on Primož above Pivka. Leave the car at the parking before the underpass under the railway (direction center - Ilirska Bistrica). And from there you have cca. 1/2 hour walk on the marked path to the bunker, which is unfortunately (or luckily) locked. For viewing arrange in the military museum in Pivka. Along the path Strane - Hruševje - Planina - Pivka there are still quite a few smaller bunkers with one or two rooms, which are mostly in very bad condition. Aja, in Hruševje turn towards guesthouse Milena and continue in the direction of Orehka. When on the right you'll see the hunters' hut (right by the road and not far from the guesthouse) stop and park and if in front of the entrance to the hunters' hut you turn so that the doors show your back, you look straight into the bunker! Which is actually entirely dug into the hill. Straight from the entrance to the hunters' hut walk towards the hill and surely you'll see and find the entrance to the bunker, which is not terribly large nor small. Well, Frenk45, I hope I helped you some. Anyway, you know with good will everything can be done - also finding bunkers and entrances. Anyway, you'll find quite some data on the net if you type rapalska meja, alpski zid, rupnikova linija,... Good luck.

Solist, I also thank you for the detailed report. You somewhat revived memories of those times many years ago, when I was in the army in Pivka. Back then we crawled through quite a few of those bunkers. I'll go myself sometime in nice weather to those places. And also check the military museum to see if my bed in the barracks is still therenasmeh.
Best regards!
Dani
