Due to an old injury, my ankle hurts badly on longer ascents (especially going downhill). I'm interested in suggestions which brace to buy that provides good support and compression + fits into hiking boot.

Bandage with bandage tape. Have a therapist show you first time how to apply it, then it's not hard anymore. All braces are bulky and don't fit into any footwear.
