Autumn KTK MTB tour - Travnik above Ljubno

Autumn is here and with it the autumn KTK tour. From Ljubno in the Savinja valley we will climb to Travnik, a peak in the ridge stretching from Smrekovec towards Raduha and separating the Savinja valley from Carinthia. As the name suggests, Travnik is covered with grass on top and if the weather favors us we can enjoy views from its summit to the Savinja valley and Bistri valley and peaks above them. Since the tour is in October the trees will also color season-appropriately, as you can see in pictures from the pre-tour preview.
We start the tour at inn "Kegljišče" a bit further from Ljubno, the path will lead us up along Savinja for a while, then turn right into Kupljenik stream valley. On gentle forest roads we will slowly climb to the edge of vast pasture below Veliki Travnik peak. The world opens here and rewards with nice views. Forest road turns into cart track on which we arrive at Koča na Travniku (1550m). Not far from the hut is Veliki Travnik peak (1637m) from where a wonderful view opens over Savinja Alps to the west, towards Peca and Klagenfurt basin to the north and in clear weather also High Tauern with Grossglockner, to the east all the way to peaks in Croatian Zagorje and Medvednica.
Follows 1200 m descent all the way to Ljubno, over pastures, past farms, with wonderful views. We have three different descents prepared according to wishes and abilities of participants, so everyone gets their share.
We gather on Saturday, 9.10.2010 at 9:15 at inn "Kegljišče Ermenc" (where we will also sit after the tour). Inn is on main road, good kilometer from Ljubno towards Luče. Departure at 9:30. Group ascent to hut, then quarter hour walk to summit. Ascent difficulty on forest roads V3-V4, on cart track on pasture locally V4-V5, descent difficulty: harder variant S4-S5, some places S5-S6, easier variants S3-S4. Mandatory gear: MTB with profiled tires, helmet, gloves, first aid, spare tube, warm clothes, windbreaker.
