I'm about to buy an avalanche transceiver. Somehow leaning towards Pieps DSP or Barryvox Pulse. Maybe Ortovox D3 too. What are your experiences? What do you recommend/use? Thanks

Hello, I need some advice from more experienced mountaineers regarding buying an avalanche transceiver. So far I've checked out some offers in shops and talked to mates who already use them, but I'm interested in your opinion too. What's the most important thing a good transceiver should have (besides good price )? Range, three antennas, multiple burial search function...? I'm looking for an optimal ratio between functionality and price. E.g. cheaper models like (not advertising shops, just as example): http://www.kibuba.com/index.php?&cID=5&scID=188&pID=1276 They serve the purpose, but it bothers me that it has only one antenna, doesn't show distance and direction. Then there's a higher class: http://www.kibuba.com/index.php?&cID=5&scID=188&pID=241, http://www.iglusport.si/?mod=store&action=viewProduct&action_id=9292&language=sl and http://www.iglusport.si/zolna-plazovna-pulse-barivox Seems to me these are solid transceivers, with good range, three antennas (shows distance to buried, multiple search option, etc.), but quite expensive, which would shake my wallet nicely (I know, safety and all, but still..). Then there's a middle option I'm leaning towards now: http://www.iglusport.si/zolna-plazovna-patroller-digital Decent range, distance display and fairly good price. I'd appreciate some advice and recommendation. Please not in the style "don't spare money" . Thanks and best regards! p.s. I know first you have to learn to use it, so I already signed up here: http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/72537/

Hi. Since I'm also buying this thing, I can tell you that based on the gathered info I'll rather take more expensive gear with better range and more functions, cuz I'll have the gear for a while. You also have other shops here where you can ask for discounts and decide where to get comparable to Pieps, e.g. Arva (Terra shop). Otherwise prices are the same everywhere. Otherwise see you at Pokljuka. Regards

The set can be 200 or over 400 euros depending what you want and how demanding you are...

For me, important is ease of use and good signal - I've decided for Ortovox 3+. It has 3 antennas, transmits the horizontal one which gives the easiest signal for searchers if buried. Whichever you get, it's important to really learn to use it.
