Begunjščica

Exhausted from school and other obligations, I didn't feel like heading to the mountains, let alone getting out of bed early in the morning. No, I desperately need rest, I'm so tired I'll collapse again sooner or later. So I indulged in some mountain running ...

The sun woke me up in the late morning, because only it knows when I'm truly rested enough. Weather was so-so, so I picked a nearby but still very demanding mountain running showdown with the slope.

This slope's called Kalvarija (Begunjščica). Start from the inn in Draga is (too) easy and flat. Real trap for inexperienced runners. Hard to decide what's smartest - save energy here or grab some precious seconds on the "flat". Well, compared to the whole route waiting higher up, it's pretty flat here. Plenty to "fly". After a good 5 minutes I'm at the handrails in Luknja. First time to tense muscles. Not so much because steep, but because path follows a faultline with tectonically crushed rock grinding under soles.

But slope's slowly turning "the real deal". Still not quite what I want, too gentle yet. Only at second bench just below Prevala the real climb kicks in. Saliva drooling from effort all the way to the ground,... as it should. I greet geologist mates on field trip at Prevala and charge into Kalvarija battle.

Start running easy enough. But goal still far off. Slowly fading. Trail luckily dry enough for running fun. Still draaaags for me. Can't see end of the hill. Plus from Kalvarija top to Veliki vrh Begunjščice another 10 mins on nasty ridge. Yeah, that's proper mountain running! Great power training.
