Begunjščica - NW ridge

17.12.2015 We started from Ljubelj towards Zelenica. From Zelenica towards Roblek there is a trodden path. After a few minutes we branched off the marked path onto an unpleasant scree and then entered the gully leading to the ridge. Whatever snow there is doesn't bear the weight, but still helps with the ascent. In the gully we kept somewhat more to the right all the time. Actually, this was the hardest part of the trip, both mentally and physically. Upon reaching the ridge our gaze drifted towards the north and the west, from where a snow shower was rapidly approaching us. On the ridge there is a little snow only in the dwarf pines, otherwise it's completely dry for now. We were at the summit in half an hour, the snow shower just grazed us. We descended via Šentanc, some smaller snow patches don't ease the descent, so we sought an express descent over fine scree. Snowflakes soon after descending the ridge turned into light drizzle that accompanied us to the car. Vrtača was lightly whitened for a while after the summit, but the sun soon did its work.
