Bela Peč and Bičkova Skala

Bela Peč is a kind of rocky ridge of Jelovica. The rocky mass is nicely visible from the village of Podblice and like a guardian watches over the village. Only the very top of the ridge is rocky, the rest of the ridge to the left and right is forested. From the road a signpost directs us straight to the ridge. The path is not marked but nicely followable. It is steep and in places exposed. Today it was slightly snowy, not iced though. In about half an hour we reach the right top edge of the ridge. Then we walk along the inner edge of the ridge to the very top of Bela Peč. The path still climbs a bit and suddenly we find ourselves on its top. There a bench and a box with summit log await us and of course an excellent view. Down with my buddy we go along the right side of the ridge towards Dražgoše past Bičkova skala. On the top of the rock a large red star reigns. It really is a unique monument for next generations.

Yesterday I went again to this wonderful viewpoint, this time from sv. Jedrt direction.
The path, partly marked with local signs, is normally passable.
I descended along the road past Bičkova skala.

I really only learned about this Bela peč last year. I didn't notice Tadej's descriptions, a friend from Kranj pointed it to me, mentioning that if they don't go elsewhere, then to Bela peč. Which one and where, I thought.

Well, yesterday was just the right day for this visit, it must be in winter anyway, if first time of course. We drove via Dražgoše and soon parked above the village. Up to there it's plowed too, higher the ski and sled tracks start. So both of us walked from Bičkova skala onwards for the first time and rejoiced at all the views opening along the path. Of course the highlight of the trip is the top, where truly incredible views open right on the rocky edge rising vertically from Podblica village. Here there's really space to admire everything to the horizon. Behind you hear the wind rustling in tall spruces, since we're on the edge of Jelovica plateau! Truly magnificent!

Oh ločanka, yesterday we could have met somewhere - we were on Dražgoška gora and Britmanca, from the same starting point. We often include Bela peč in this loop too and each of these peaks on the edge of Jelovica has a really unique view. Our favorite is Britmanca, which is the least visited of all, we discovered it only later too ...

I have also gone on foot from Železniki over Kališe, along the road to Jelešče and further to Dražgoška gora and Britmanca, on the way back a detour to Površnica and Sv. Križ, good 2 hours walk one way.

In the first picture is the Novak farm, past it goes an interesting marked path to Podlonk, to the hunting hut on Tol (and further to Ratitovec).

Good luck! nasmeh

georgia, we're just starting to explore these partsnasmeh. In the past I practically never thought about hiking around here. We already have some set goals, we'll add Britmanca that you mentioned. Thanks for all this info you provided. Maybe we'll really meet again around here, as it really impressed us. And practically so closenasmeh.

Well at our place Jelovica came a bit later too when we explored new paths and peaks in the area when we were limited to municipalities.

Usually we first go from P above Jelenšce to Dražgoška gora, from the top continue some 100m on forest road to junction with marked path to Vodiška planina (this marked shortcut skips Dražgoška gora). You go down this path and immediately hit a branch to the left leading along the ridge to Britmanca. The undulating path is easy to follow, we had no problems first time figuring when you reach the right peak - Britmanca, also recognize by scenic bench and log box. From Dražgoška it's about 15 min walk.

Then a bit more exploring towards Bela peč (descend further on forest path and continue left until you hit forest road from Bičkova skala direction to Bela peč). So you make a nice loop along Jelovica edge.
Or from Britmanca descend directly back to P if you keep more to the right. You have to find your way among various forest paths and roads ... Now everything is trodden, when no snow, markings of Dražgoše Strava trail help.

Good luck! mežikanje

Bela peč is also called Podbliška gora and to know its true appearance you have to climb it from Podblice.
Very picturesque was already the drive from Kranj direction through villages Besnica and Nemilje, as Bela peč with its cliffs, beyond which today's path led us, already from afar drew the views to itself. To add something new to the path, on return we chose path to Jamnik and shortly before it descended to the lower road to starting point. Along the way we caught a really nice view of the church with snowy Košuta backdrop in background.

With driving we then continued to Dražgoše and so made a really nice trip also in that regardnasmeh.
