Our colleague Jaka from Loški Potok organized the 4th hike in the footsteps of bears for us. The route is always different, the purpose is to discover the beauties of Loški Potok. Saturday's tour was the longest, total 26 km and 825 m elevation gain.
27 hikers gathered. We started in Rakitnica, a village a bit further from Dolenje vas pri Ribnici. The first part of the path was led by two locals, Lojz and Igor, both husbands of my high school classmates.
The path runs through the forest, which is quite suitable for summer heat. The first conquered peak was BELA STENA (1.122 m), from which we saw towards Ribnica, Mali gori, sv. Ana. Then Jaka took over the guiding. On the way we saw the monument to those who perished in the 1985 helicopter accident. We already conquered the second peak, REZINSKI VRH (1.231 m). The third is the highest peak of Velika gora, TURN (1.254 m). This time Julijci and KSA were not visible, but we saw Snežnik. I would warn mark makers that on some sections they could add some signs for easier orientation. Old and new marks are a bit confusing, for locals it's of course all clear... We continued the path towards Jelenov Žleb, where Jaka explained about the battles that took place in this area. On the way to Loški Potok we also saw a vulture feeding ground and learned more secrets of hunting.
We are lucky to have had local guides and the hike was even more interesting and safely carried out. In between we also had the option of transport, since not all participants can manage such a path. Conclusion in the inn PR KAPC, where they served us home-made delicacies, and beer also fitted well. Thanks to all three guides, especially to Jaka, who brought us closer to the beauties and secrets of Loški Potok.
