...Beautiful Peak...I couldn't decide when I got to the saddle via Železnica - Trupejevo poldne or Beautiful Peak. But I was more tempted to these Walls. Nice viewpoint, little visited, because the path to the top is kinda tricky. You see the little path, follow it, then it disappears in the bushes. Then you crawl under or through. Towards the summit the terrain opens up more. Back I had more luck, found a path that was pretty OK. There too you had to crawl sometimes, but it went. The path starts from the saddle a bit right, at the poles for electric shepherd. I hung a bag up there, no stones for a cairn. So it might help someone planning to go to this peak. I continued to the valley along the first path right. First through forest then along the torrent bed of Hladnik stream. Got to the hut very quickly (half an hour). Might come in handy if you're doing a loop ... nasmeh

Yesterday (Monday, Jan 3) from Srednji vrh to the top of White Walls. From there to Trupejevo Poldne and back to valley already in dark.

Snow started about 100m above road, but path well trodden all the way. In afternoon sun the quite closed gully of Jerman stream looked bright, even playful. Only the memorial plaque to eight villagers of Srednji vrh who went to check livestock in the harsh cold winter of distant Jan 2, 1777 and were buried by avalanche left a somewhat bitter taste for a while. As far as I could find out, it's the first recorded and truly tragic avalanche accident here.

Excellent track (ski tourers could use it too) leads from Železnica to saddle under Trupejevo Poldne and further (not really for ski tourers) to summit. But I turned right at saddle and up direct through indistinct gully to isolated White Walls summit. No track there of course, sank to waist sometimes, but not too bad. On top views all around, maybe even better than from Trupejevo Poldne summit, since you could see Trupejevo Poldne too nasmeh

Descended my track back to saddle, tried to preserve footsteps, but snow will probably cover them tomorrow. Then via comfy, crampon-grooved path jumped to Trupejevo Poldne, got views of pale glowing setting sun and fogs heralding bad weather sneaking from south via Vršič pass towards Kranjska Gora. Got dark, too late for descent via nice ridge to Blekova planina, so returned same way. Lit headlamp at Železnica.

Nice afternoon. Winter gear stayed in pack, in yesterday conditions microspikes might help some, but I didn't have them and honestly didn't miss much. Gaiters mandatory for breaking trail in deep snow.

The path along the Jerman stream was sunny and playful.

Memorial plaque to those who perished in the tragedy of January 2, 1777.

Gloomy sun over Vršič. Mists are penetrating through the pass, harbingers of bad weather.

Dimniki, Luknja peč and Rjavina. In front Rušnata and Požgana Mlinarica.

Julian Alps in the glow of pale, setting sun.

Unusual rockfall of dark rocks in the Baška area.

Bele peči from the path to Trupejevo Poldne. I went up the gully slightly left of the summit entrance.

Visibility was far. Is the pyramid a bit to the right of the center perhaps Antelao?

j. Difficult approach even in summer. Battle through bushes all the way to top. But in snow easier to see where path goes. Views from top better than from easier neighbor.. nasmeh

Thanks, Majda! Views from this peak really nice.
I went direct from saddle (blue track on pic). Thought breaking trail over snow-covered bushes along hribi.net described path could be annoying. So can only guess where described access goes. Drew it red. Am I wrong?

And this: at start climbed right by bushes, quite trimmed. Has something changed there in recent years and now even in summer direct from saddle to peak?

Started far left at one pole for el. shepherd. Struggle across bushes then along fairly visible path, for crawling, to top. Remember summit suddenly in front. Tried from saddle too, but too much fight for Ira, through bushes... Think Tadej went straight up, your way. Roughly as I marked is how I went, but snow changes view. Maybe your drawing helps someone, nice up there, no doubt.. nasmeh

Haven't been up for years, doubt anyone trimmed bushes and cleared path. Maybe? nasmeh

Again went for adventure to Srednji vrh, from there followed classic approach to Trupej. Path well trodden overall and we had to use it again nasmeh

But only to saddle between Trupej and Beautiful Peak. There turned right into almost untouched slopes of Beautiful Peak. No track, just remains of messed up useless ski tracks wind here and there to top. Route shady, so snow mostly unprocessed and brittle. There we sank to butt. After initial crashing and cursing found excellent gully with compact snow. Up it straight under summit, then some searching best passages. Reward wonderful views and especially sun velik nasmeh

. Descended route of ascent.

Warning ... part of mentioned slope hard snow requiring full winter gear. Steepness there substantial and not short. Elsewhere snow unprocessed and deep sinking to bushes.

Morning on Srednji vrh. At the parking lot we are among the first

The path leads us past the Hlebanja homestead. Parking here is not desired

Right after the homestead we turn onto the cart track. It is icy at the beginning.

Further on, the snow is just right for walking.

Also further along the Železnica and even higher the path is well trodden.

We are already at the saddle between Trupej and Lepi vrh.

For Lepi vrh I put on these big crampons and ice axe.

There follow areas of deep snowdrifts and hard snow, all in the shade.

No tracks to be seen, so we look for the best passages ourselves.

Trupej on the opposite side of the saddle.

Enjoyable gully with compact snow and a proper slope.

Returning on the same path as in the morning. Surprisingly few people.

Small crampons are great for slippery paths, as long as they are not exposed.

Lower down the snow is wet. Balls form on the crampons, so we take them off.

We are already back in Srednji vrh. No more traces of the morning ice.

Idea was to see closer side ridge of Karavanke from Kopišče, over Srednji vrh to White Walls (Beautiful Peak). Project turned more time-consuming than first looked, but probably partly my fault, didn't always hit direction best, result more bushwhacking than probably needed. Well, happens.

Park before hunter hut Železnica, real winter conditions there, while south slopes just lovely sun. But what, I don't go there. nasmeh

Ridge start at Kopišče, leads less visible but nice path, summit trimmed, offers great views. Further along ridge to Srednji vrh I sense path, but not sure.. hunter or animal? When it turns somewhere into three nice directs over rock step I get answer and go my way as I know. Somewhere near top hit trimmed scrub and path again, at Srednji vrh surprised by box with logbook. Maybe not so rarely visited after all? Though entries just one page in two years... Path ahead over whole ridge, but locally quite overgrown and when turns north into snow lost it a few times. A couple spots short detours around rock steps, no tech difficulty, just time-consuming.

Finally arrive at Beautiful Peak (aka White Walls), splendid viewpoint. Since started late and thrashed too long, days short, shortened plan and leave Trupejevo poldne for another time and road march to car and finish.

On Srednji vrh. In the center at the back Lepi vrh, on the left Trupejevo poldne.

Bottom left Gozd Martuljek, a bit more to the right in the valley Kranjska Gora.

At elevation 1829 (forepeak of Srednji vrh), view back at the already covered path...

... and further ahead to the goal (right Lepi vrh, left Trupejevo poldne).

The blue line is the original plan, red the realization. Approx. 7 km and 500 m of ascent.

Thanks for super idea Loerst.
Hang around these parts a lot, already wondered if paths to this ridge.
Today to Kopišče and Srednji vrh (up one, down another, everywhere bush bashing). Continuation along ridge saved for spring when days longer. To White Walls classic from saddle - mainly slippery down. Then over Trupej and Vošca all dry, only if not that damn SW wind.
