I don't blame these mountaineers for the wrong decision to go into the mountains, but the weather forecasters on TV and radio, as they should have provided complete weather data at the peak of the hiking season. So I only heard a few times: Due to the southwest wind it will be hot, visibility will be limited by desert dust. Not a word about strong wind in the high mountains.

Indeed, the weather forecasters should have said that, but most people who went to sleep in the huts around Triglav yesterday were probably foreigners. This wouldn't have affected them, as they don't watch or listen to Slovenian TV and radio.
I hope that at least the staff in the huts advised them against climbing Triglav.

Eh, I think it's still not as bad as the forecast says. Maybe somewhere locally it blows a bit more. I've been watching cameras all day on Kredarica, Kamnik, Kokrško saddle, Zelenica, Kranjska gora (Mojcin dom)
Here currently (16.30) two people in short sleeves and pants sitting in front of the hut on Kamnik saddle. The forecast at this altitude for wind is between 32kmh(at 1500m) to 60kmh (at 2000m). At these numbers it's quite unpleasant to sit in front of the hut, even if there's sun. Especially on KS, where it often blows even when there's no wind  .
Pity or luckily that I have to rest today because of the forecast, but tomorrow I won't believe the forecast and I'll go for a walk in KSA.

On Kredarica around eight they measured gusts up to 120 km/h. Seems quite a lot to me. Enough to blow you off some ridge if you're not holding on and standing most firmly at that moment.

Hi,
Can I just check where exactly you look at these wind forecasts in the mountains, so you know when it will blow strongly? Do you look at the blue ARSO page (data for wind and wind gusts)?
I also really don't like going to the mountains when it's windy and avoid such days. But I've already noticed several times that the wind forecast on the blue ARSO page was wrong (either they forecasted very strong wind, but there was none, or they forecasted no wind, but it was blowing strongly on the hill).
Now I somehow combine the blue ARSO page and Windy... but even this combination isn't always quite accurate. What do you recommend for wind forecasts in the mountains?

I use this https://meteo.arso.gov.si/met/sl/weather/bulletin/mountain/ and the ARSO app (the blue one) because the data for the available locations are accurate (at least at that moment), since there are measuring stations there.
If I heard correctly, the weather forecasters got the forecast right about 40 times in 365 days, so......
