Pleasant trail was on Sunday, which felt more like early November than January weather-wise. This time together with neighbor and already quite hiking-mountaineering veteran Vinkot. He has been to Donačka gora many times, but not yet to the Sotla source and the path from Sv. Donat onward was unknown to him. We chose one of the easier variants and the highest point was 767 m.a.s.l. on the ridge road under Plešivec, where it was quite lively as a joint hunt drive of several hunting societies was taking place, there was a crowd, dog barking and shots fell not far away higher toward the peak. At Ložno we caught up with two friends from Poljčane and continued together toward Rudijev dom. Excellent locals showed me also parts where decades ago the path ran a bit aside from today's route...After refreshment we continued to the Sotla source while colleagues stuck to the original plan of ascent to the western peak and then descent to Stoperce and further to Sv. Ana above Makole. The path to the source passed quickly and a group of five hikers from Dobrina near Žetale descended to the source from a slightly different side. After short chat, continuing the path and this time too I chose the forest road along the border, which is nevertheless a bit more scenic than direct road descent. The forest roads merge again under the Lipovec hunting hut. It got cloudy and darker and in quite quick pace it was necessary to descend via Trlično settlement, past border crossing Dobovec to the train station Sv. Rok ob Sotli, because the train departed at 17:25. We caught it by a mere three minutes and thus concluded the jump over or better said somewhat below the peaks of eastern Karawanks. Due to poor Sunday connections this time to Podplat station, where transport home to Poljčane awaited us. Nice Sunday was the right choice for a somewhat longer trip and there were really many runners, walkers, hikers, ramblers... all the way to Sv. Donat church, while further on as expected - more solitary path. Regards bruny

On Sunday 25.11.2012 to the source of the Sotla River or Schengen border in hiking pace together with colleague Vinko from PD Poljčane in a somewhat harder variant than in January from Poljčane and descent to Dobovec or train station Sv. Rok ob Sotli. Also via old Roman road toward Formin and partly somewhat harder route between Strmce and Rudijev dom on Donačka gora under Ženčaj for a few less kilometers at same elevations. Between Vrhe/Žerak pass and Sotla source lots of fallen trees or larger branches which prevented faster progress and consequently searching detours. To the source we went exceptionally via forest path under the summit ridge and then steeply down. Terrain wet and very slippery in larger part of the path. If we had known with colleague about the path condition between Vrhe pass and Sotla source we would probably decide differently but once there you push to the goal set before starting no matter ,,what,,. From seen on entire route the October snow did most damage just in Log-Macelj forests. Met no one except in immediate vicinity of the hut on Donačka gora...Total estimate somewhere 31-32 kilometers due to Garmin discharge, while elevations are real. Return home partly by train combination between Sv. Rok ob Sotli and Podplat and car transport. Yes this tour is becoming quite traditional in my calendar of connecting extreme eastern Karawank paths and always in somewhat different variant. Circular walk in Macelj mountains.. I always feel nice here, because it's always peaceful.. Now little snow beautified the walk, and in warmer weather - white-barked trees provide shade.. Birds sing in summer and winter.. No real views.. Here couple of pics, more on my Google.. Track can be downloaded from my Wikiloc
