Bogatin and Mahavšček

I'm wondering if anyone has hiked from Komna to Bogatin and Mahavšček in the last few days? What's the trail condition (regarding snow, ice)?

Thanks.

Hi, was there yesterday, path mostly dry, in shady spots some ice. Used small crampons (4 teeth). Ascent to Bogatin bp, as well as to Mahavšček. Good luck on the path and safe steps.

After sleeping (1.6.2019) in the hut on Komna and breakfast I head to Bogatinsko sedlo and on to Bogatin. After a short break I continue to Mahavšček. To the saddle the path is dry. But on the way to the saddle there is a rockfall. Towards Bogatin there are two more snowfields, which can be bypassed. Towards Mahavšček there is one more snowfield just below the summit. Views wonderful. Snow melting very fast and the path to both summits will probably be dry soon. Nice mountaineer's greeting.

Hello!
Probably the ridge Bogatin - Mahavšček - Tolminski kuk - Škrbina no longer has any serious snowfields?

No snow from Bogatinsko sedlo to Škrbina for at least a week, so happily on the way

Up to Polog the road is closed to traffic, two signs (unless someone has a permit). The car is left a bit above Tolmin and one continues on foot, by bike or bus. Past pl. Polog I continue to the Tolminka spring and on to Prehodci. There to Bogatinsko sedlo and to Bogatin and Mahavšček. Weather mixed from sun to a little rain, wind. The path from Prehodci to Bog. sedlo was mowed by someone. From Mahavšček I continue along the ridge looking where to descend from the ridge to the scree. The scree is OK for descent for a while then slightly bigger stones, so after the scree tongue I helped myself with bushes. I reach the marked path and descend straight down. And back to the valley. All in all it dragged on a bit, almost until dark.

I did this wonderful tour on 19.07.2021 when the weather was fantastic and the sky cloudless. Start at Savica along the serpentines directly to Koča pod Bogatinom. Then on to Bogatinsko sedlo. Despite no clouds, there was no heat on the path although the whole path runs in the sun. At the saddle no one except one marmot, which was exploring a bit and sunbathing a bit. From the saddle to Bogatin. I reached the summit quickly and the steepness did not seem as bad as described. Follows descent and then ascent to Mahavšček. Views from both peaks breathtaking. Triglav, 7J valley, Krnsko pogorje... all was like on the palm of the hand. From Mahavšček I continued to Vrh Škrli. From the top descent to the marked path leading to planina Govnjač. The path is wonderful and solitary. The shortcut to planina Govnjač is still completely overgrown and at times I literally pushed through all that brush. I had no idea that planina Govnjač is so big. From the planina directly to Komna. This path is also quite overgrown. Luckily not with brush, but it gives the impression that it is not too crowded. From Komna still an annoying descent to the car.
Despite the wonderful day I met very few people, from the top of Bogatin to Komna I met no one at all.
But I saw plenty of wonderful flowers, and of those that usually do not bloom in the same time period at all. From Clusius' bellflower to edelweiss.

Today from the hut at Savica to Komna, then on to Bogatinsko sedlo and Bogatin, from there to Mahavšček and via planina Govnjač back to Komna and then just descent to the hut at Savica. Weather really pleasant, most of the path in sun, only Mahavšček was hiding in a cloud all the time. From Komna onwards I met no living soul. I skipped the shortcut to planina Govnjač this time, because once was quite enoughvelik nasmehvelik nasmehvelik nasmeh.

Depends when last year you went. In July when I went, it still wasn't cleared.

The warden at Komna told me yesterday when I told her where I was going not to take the shortcut because it is completely overgrown. I went that shortcut three years ago and cursed everything alive up there, so I preferred to obey velik nasmehvelik nasmehvelik nasmeh

Today from Savica past the hut at Komna and Koča po Bogatinom to Bogatin and on to Mahavšček and over planina Govnjač back. Gorgeous day, gorgeous views. Path without issues, all well marked and not very demanding this path.

On Saturday completely different picture than on Friday. Path to saddle trampled so we were quickly before the ascent. View from top calling to continue so we extended to Mahavšček, Vrh Škrli and Kser then descended via Govnjač back to Komna. Super conditions for walking, snowshoes needed only at bottom of descent almost on flat Govnjačnasmeh
