Boreal Boots

Nice greeting

I'm interested in your expert opinion on the boots on this link: http://www.promontana.si/spletna-trgovina/izdelek/1444/ice_master_cevlji/

Your opinion interests me especially because the boots are relatively cheap considering that in Iglu you can't get boots with automatic crampons for less than 300€

Thanks in advance for the reply

As you can see only one size left and that's 7.5. Outlet label tells you it's an old model probably collecting dust on shelves for quite a while. Some materials age over time and lose a lot of functionality etc... and the sense of such purchase becomes very questionable.

For sales I don't know if Boreal will be cheaper and this model to me seems that in real cold you'll freeze your feet soon - but I can warmly recommend these Boreal boots which I'm using second winter season. They are really excellent and I used automatic crampons several times (Petzl-charlet sarken II) without issues.

They are more expensive but if you plan full-day winter tours then worth considering and getting a better model since you don't buy boots every year and ultimately a lot depends on them. If buying at Promontana I recommend also excellent socks for longer winter tours ....

Andrej:
Boreal boots at Promontana are outlet, meaning last pair size 7.5

Sales referred to the statement: that at Iglu you don't get boots with automatic crampons for less than 300€

Yes, I read - Boreal boots which I gave as an example are not outlet and are under 300€ and allow use of automatic crampons. On sales usually we don't get sizes that fit us... mežikanje

I think the models listed above are not just "solid" but already quite top-notch (prices show that too..)
Sure it's great to have a good boot from quality materials with long lifespan but considering someone might really be hit by the economic crisis or doesn't go to mountains in winter every day it would be right to point to more affordable ones (e.g. up to 100€ or a bit more) that still have some quality..

For that money definitely I wouldn't take Boreal!

In Alpina stores until New Year there is a 20% discount, if you know someone who has a mountain guide's license card then you have 30% discount, so it's worth it...
I wear Alpina-Teton and I'm very satisfied with them, suitable for automatic crampons, true it's a bit heavier boot but it depends on the person how much "fitness" they havevelik nasmeh

If you're looking for the lightest possible boot and functional for walking, climbing..... I would suggest something from La Sportiva, Trango GTX, Khumbu, Nepal Extreme, Evo. I would also look at Millet, Scarpa or even Salomon, whatever fits your foot better.

I have the same boot you're buying and it's worth every euro, not just good, it's excellent, I use it for ice climbing, couloirs, mixed routes, drytooling, it holds up excellently in all conditions, so I warmly recommend it to you. It also performed excellently for multi-day tours. So I hope you have size 7.5 and it fits.

merry and happy Christmas to everyone

Oh and one more thing, it's not said that you have to pay the most money to get the supposedly best, I know people who paid over 400€ for boots but they were far from the best.

Really it's not always important how much you pay but for boots I'd say it is not so. It's clear that for a good technical boot you have to pay 300eur+.

Happy holidays and safe steps in 2010

Regarding shoe brands, it's like everyone praises mainly what they wear or wore years ago and were satisfied with - but something still holds even though now everyone turns every € twice before spending it - save wherever you can but NEVER on shoes, because you'll very likely regret it soon. 250-300€ isn't that bad because shoes can last a nice number of years, if I compare it to say 10 daily ski passes then at all ... mežikanje
