For today's weather conditions the most suitable goal in this area was definitely Borov(l)je (or nearby Planica). On the rocks at the summit Avrikelj is blooming nicely. View of dry Kepa and Gubno, Visoki vrh. Including us there were 15 visitors. Short, to the point. LP heinz!

Heinz, can you add some detail about the path to Borovje. E.g. where it starts, if there are markers, etc.. Kudos for your description. Regards Nisa

You can find the route description to Borovje here too: http://www.hribi.net/izlet/brinje_borovje_/11/505/852 The path is unmarked, but you need to pay attention to a few things: In Dovje find the gravel road towards Kepa and Dovška baba. Shortly after, a bit higher at the junction turn left to Kepa and drive on for quite a while (10 min). Brinje is quite high above Dovje, at about 1100 m, specifically it should be at the sharp left bend of the road (the straight one leads to Mlinci, Kepa etc). You don't have to leave the car there yet, you can drive quite a bit further to the next bigger left bend mentioned in the description (it's double or even triple/first right), where you step onto the cart track (second in row), which goes uphill towards north. It brings you to rovt Vrse, which is on the right. Here go past the larger weekend house (right next is a smaller hut and spruce with bench and table) right to SE into the forest, but not on the nearby path, but just on the forested ridge, riddled with tree roots and trodden eastwards. Walk uphill along the edge. After a while the path turns slightly left towards north, even steeper uphill. Towards the top, when the slope eases, then right-east to the rocks, where the summit is. In wet conditions due to steepness and countless roots caution is needed especially on descent. LP heinz!

Obviously the path is not easy orientation-wise. Without your detailed description it would be much harder. Thanks and best regards. Nisa

Today I headed to Borovje. I parked at Aljaž and walked through Dovje for the first time. Since at the start I realized my tea was cooling in an open thermos on the kitchen counter , and I didn't take water with me, a plastic bottle saved me, in which I keep spare water for cleaning windows. In the village I fill fresh water at the fountain and continue along the road. It's dry to the junction above the village, where the road turns right towards Erjavčev rovt, the road left towards Kepa, where I went, is drivable only to the next bend. The snowy path is well trodden, so I could advance quickly to rovt Vrse, from where towards saddle Šija between Planica and Borovje I followed only the track of one hiker, which I followed to the top. Fresh snow is soft, on already packed base about 20 cm, higher and in drifts more. The predecessor took a more direct approach to Borovje, already before the saddle turned into the steep part and joined the usual ridge approach from the saddle quite high up. For crossing the steep slopes under the west subpeak of Borovje and the last few meters below the summit I used ice axe for safer progress, although the base is not sufficiently solid everywhere. Since the weather was "blue", views beautiful, I allowed myself a bit more rest at the cross on the summit than usual. For return to Vrse I used the track I noticed on ascent a bit below the summit, on the path leading to the summit from rovt in NW direction. Nice day, temperature very pleasant for walking, there wasn't too much cold wind either.

Yesterday in wonderful weather from Brinje to the top of Borovje. Already on the gravel path magnificent views from Ratitovec to Višarije and beyond. In rovt Vrse there was still some snow and we followed the footprints leading to the ridge path. The ridge path dry, bare, soon becomes very steep. Towards Planica still quite snowy, no one walked. Snow only about 2 meters long right below the summit. On the summit - very nice, no wind, bench and logbook box, panoramic 360°. Two friendly locals explained the names of the peaks to us. We stayed up there quite a while, as it was so calm, sunny and scenic. We will surely return here. Of course today it's completely different due to weather change. Safe travels to all. PS: The morning started completely differently. We intended Jerebikovec. Just before the left crossing, already over halfway, we turned back, as it was sensible to continue only with winter gear.

There is quite some snow, but as temperatures suggest completely rotten. Predecessor signed in 24.12. According to the visit the path is not trodden. Views are worthy of the mountain's fame, thus excellent.

I'm wondering if due to snow the car has to be left already at Dovje? Or is it possible to go higher towards Brinje?
