A little sideways shot from Rdeči rob to Stolov greben and also BJ. Southern slopes have very little snow.

Late afternoon from village Brezje (15km from Kobarid) to Breški Jalovec. Descent via southern ridge.

This year's tour to Breški Jalovec postponed several times due to unstable weather finally happened today. Well, we somehow sensed we'd get wet on descent and yes it was so. Thundering and sleet mixed with rain. But no hikers. At 6.30 started walking from Breginj. First summit Nizki vrh. From there to Breški Jalovec all three first time up. Then two-hour ridge walk up and down to Gabrovec or Veliki Muzec. Path barely visible, markings faded so better in good weather. Stop at bivouac under Muzec nicely kept. Then to valley where rain caught us. Great tour, met no one. 17 km and 1600m gain.

You are in the world to watch the sun. You are in the world to go after the sun, wrote Tone Pavček. We three went after the sun yesterday. It warmed us. Wind cooling on ridges. Which there were quite a few to cross. Started in Breginj. They have nice parking. At seven it was cold. Path well traceable. Known to me and Marijan. Renato first time here. Steep all the way to Nizki vrh. A bit further in forest we walked on snow and heard wild capercaillie flapping. But it was fast and flew away. Chamois more calm watching us. Also the ermine probably went ahead somewhere. Didn't see it. On top two more hikers. Italians. They said they come here often. Then pleasant walk peak to peak. Sometimes avoid snow. All the way to Gabrovec summit. Bivouac under Muzec full of mouse droppings didn't stay. Marijan who got mouse fever last year knows how it looks. Last descent to valley awaited. Went well. After 11 hours and 7 min with breaks back to start. 17km walk and 1680m gain. Quite often up and down on ridge. Tour as befits April day. No rain. Morning snowed peaks cleared of white during day.

The markings are clearly visible on the thick trees.

Yes, you're right. Beautiful remote spots. Markings renewed. Chased the shadows. Clouds were really interesting.

For me, who has no herd instinct and loves peace, very favorite spots... sometimes there was a cross and Madonna on top.

Breginj - Lanževica (Punta Lausciovizza) - Breški Jalovec (Punta di Montemaggiore) - Veliki Muzec - Breginj

On Sunday I set off from Breginj to explore paths on the southern side of the ridge. Especially interested in the part on the Italian side, which I didn't know and couldn't find much information about. Some missing path sections that I walked I also drew into OSM - maybe useful for someone in planning. Interesting, solitary exploration and a nice circular tour resulted.

There are several streams along the path

Ruins. Up to here the path was known to me, further towards the Italian border I'm going for the first time.

On the unmarked (hunter's) path. In the background the summit of Breški Jalovec is visible.

Further along the hunter's path, which is nicely traceable.

Here also runs il cammino celeste, which leads from Aquileia to Resia.

On the marked path from Brezje to Breški Jalovec (right). I decide for a slightly different approach and turn left.

On the unmarked path. In the valley of the village Karnahta (Cornappo).

The ants have started building their home.

The trail disappears when I reach the rocky terrain.

I decide on a direct ascent pathless to the top of the ridge.

Cross dedicated to the Czech mountaineer

On Breški Jalovec, with a nice view of the ridge continuation to the east.

View towards snow-covered Kanin peaks, before them the grassy Skutnik ridge.

Neither left nor right, but straight ahead following the ridge.

The path goes past crumbly screes where Beli potok springs below (waterfall in picture 8).

On the shady side of the ridge still some trudging through soft snow

Dark clouds and some frozen rain catch me. Short-term.

On Veliki Muzec. In the background Kanin range and Bovec.

Up the north side to Lenževica and along the ridge to Breški Jalovec. Sat there a while, thought about going further and descending the longer path but sun lured me back along the ridge. Nice sunset, half meter of snow under the ridge on north side. Used ice axe.

16.10. 2025. Tamnameji - Breški Jalovec - Lanževca and to the koča Ana, which is closed. At least that's what it says. Descended circularly to start. Man climbs mountain of his visions, as long as lives in illusion of peak. (A. G.) Peak not important to us. More unknown path from Resia along ridge, where walking really pleasant in October day. Forecasters predicted sun, but when on Breški Jalovec it hid. Had everything from wind to clouds and impaired views. Also group of guys from Italy came from Brezje behind us. Some visitors there were. Stopped little at hut. Got cold. Descent through forest. Path well marked. Leaves cover path so not visible. For Maks interesting large group of chamois grazing lower. Just watched them. Knew yeah they much faster than him. nasmeh
