Hey @AI.. combination of both, so I had breakfasts and dinners with me and prepared them myself (hot meals with a stove), lunches and snacks/sweets I ate in huts along the way. I also had a water filter with me, so I didn't buy water anywhere, but refilled it along the path (tons of springs) or at huts.

Friday: Unfortunately the road from Tablje to Lonic is still closed, so I drive around through Paularo and park at Casera Ramaz. I start on macadam towards hut Fabiani, road officially closed but with car reachable to 1496m altitude, so parking at the junction of the hiking trail from the road. Italians mark many new trails but poorly mark intersections. New are trails from Casere Meledis bassa to Casere Meledis alta, from Casere Ramaz alta to Casere Lodin and from macadam road over Casero Lodinut bassa to Casere Lodin. Hut Fabiani is idyllic, solitary and beautiful, landscape also lonely and remote from civilization. I will definitely return there. Follows a slight ascent to border saddle Zollner torl (Passo Pecol di Chiaula). Austrian hut Zollner closed (assume because workday?), so above it turn right to KHW 403 through high alpine bog and to Zollner lake. Continue on wonderful promenade KHW 403 to agriturismo Straniger alm, where I rest. Follows ascent on macadam road to Gugela, then above agriturismo Kleinkordinalm back to border ridge at saddle Kordin. Incredibly scenic and comfortable trail continues on Italian side of ridge. At saddle Val Dolce (Rattendorfer Sattel) leave ridge and descend past Attila's cave to Lonic. Then descend by bike to car. At agriturismo Cippo usual road sign for Austria, so I think it's faster to return there than via Paularo. Now I don't understand how I managed to get through, since road due to construction practically undrivable to end of ascent. At border saddle Meledis also Austrian barrier closed at night and Oct to early June, descent on macadam road to Austrian side to village Stranig in Gail Valley endless. Hope road from Tablje to Lonic soon open for traffic... Central Karnics really wonderful, especially countless water springs under the ridge itself, truly incredible. Trails comfortable, soft, panoramic, solitary and scenic, perfect rest for soul and body.

Beginning of the hike along countless water springs under the border ridge, in this part of the Carnic Alps soldiers (mainly A-O army) on the mountain front line were not thirsty even in summer15
