I start today's tour a few km before Pontebba (Tablja). I park next to the FVG bike path. With the bike I head towards Pontebba (Tablja), go through the town center and continue along the bike path. For planina Slenza (Slemenca) (1478m) I turn right just under the second highway viaduct. I ride into something like a courtyard surrounded by a wall and iron gates. The path to the pasture is clearly visible as it's the only one behind that wall. Soon the path starts steeply ascending. The gravel path is nicely rideable and runs all through the forest. After 6 km I cycle to the lower Slenza pasture, where the gravel path ends. I continue another about 100m on the path and then a mule track turns right, which I follow. The marker is on the tree (Slenza alta). The mule track here becomes very steep and it's almost impossible to cycle. I push the bike almost the whole way to the upper pasture and it was quite strenuous. Walking takes about 20-30 min. I hoped that at the upper pasture (8km) Slenzza there would be no snow, but unfortunately it wasn't the case. The meadow under the pasture was still all in snow (30cm), so had to trudge. Views here are wonderful, even better on the nearby peak (15min walk from the pasture) Slenza est 1589m. Exceptional panoramic point on the Pontebba (Tablja) lying below and its surroundings. I return to the pasture and ponder whether to do a loop back to the valley or return the same way. But since a track was made from the other end I decided for the loop. I go right on the tracks and soon reach path 429, which leads to the valley. Approximately half an hour I walk in snow and at about 1300m the snow disappeared, so the path ahead was rideable to the valley. Exceptionally beautiful forest path. At the house in the clearing gravel starts, I turn right and after 3-4km reach the hamlet Plans. Another km descent to Pontebba (Tablja) and along the bike path back to the car. Tour very interesting and quite demanding regarding the ascent itself to the pasture and the challenging forest descent to the valley.
