Čemšeniška Castle Trail

Print

The trail does not run in the area of Čemšeniška highland, as one might conclude from the name, but in the hinterland of Lavrica. It got its name from the medieval settlement Čemšenik in this area, and it was created as a joint project of various societies ( Click ). Along the entire trail there are also a few thematic panels placed for this purpose.

It all runs along partially marked and partially unmarked paths, so GPS track is very useful, but not necessary. On the trail you can climb over the indistinct peaks Prečnica and Hrastovec, the main peak is Molnik. Total length is 12 km with 550 m elevation gain.

Čemšeniška Castle Trail Start is at Lavrica, parking in front of Hofer or primary school1

When the weather is of the gloomy kind even local hillocks and paths are perfectly fine nasmeh. One such, always useful is the Čemšeniška Castle Trail. It's not too long, not too steep and you make a nice loop too. Start and finish is in Lavrica, parking in front of Hofer or the primary school. The highest point is at Molnik, and you can visit a few additional peaks right next to the trail.
I park at Lavrica in front of Hofer and turn right past the school.1
I continue through the quiet block settlement Ob potoku.2
The first path sign appears before the ascent up the hill at the auto mechanic.3
Up to the last houses there is still asphalt, then the path becomes a cart track and later a forest path.4
Info boards follow quite frequently, but there are no specific markers for this path.5
Information about the locals can also be found in many places.6
Christmas decorations :)7
Lanišče, a smaller hamlet above the motorway.8
It is known for its notable Lisičje Castle on the edge of the village.9
Its beginnings date back to the 16th century. Valvasor also wrote about it.10
The castle is in satisfactory condition; the owner is the Škofljica municipality.11
From the castle I continue straight ahead towards the road that cuts across the slope on the opposite hillside.12
Here too I encounter signs of the Čemšeniška grajska pot.13
Crossing over the motorway. At the end of the overpass I turn left.14
View of the noisy link towards Dolenjska.15
Some more ascent along the motorway follows ...16
Then the path turns right into the forest and silence returns.17
Higher up there is some whiteness that nicely livens up the landscape.18
Molnik, the highest peak of Čemšeniška, is not far away anymore.19
At the summit there is a logbook and some benches.20
The hill near Molnik is more inviting. It even has a covered seating area.21
Some more benches are arranged in a circle around the central point.22
Descent from Molnik follows another path to the right of the approach direction.23
Soon signs for Jakob's Path also appear. Both paths lead towards Orle.24
Written in history with golden letters :)25
Santa Claus will also set off along Jakob's Path with his sleigh :)26
When there is no snow, it's quite good like this too :)27
Path fork at the upper edge of Orle village. Jakob's Path goes right, Čemšeniška left.28
A slightly hidden sign also indicates this.29
Just before the log cabin, the path turns right, although it is apparently private property.30
The continuation proceeds along wide forest paths.31
At the first house, turn sharply left onto the narrow asphalt road.32
Soon I reach a populated area high above the valley.33
During the descent, a local greets me friendly :)34
The loop is closed, I am already at the starting point.35
GPS track of the hiked path. It recorded 12 km and 550 m of ascent.36
