Centenary Path - Moses' Notch - Viš

On Sunday, 24.6. we circled above Jezersko valley. Started at the outflow of Beli potok (path 625), past Bruner and Gorizia bivouacs to Upper Beli potok notch, where Centenary Path starts or ends. Varied path, secured at key spots, up and down... deep into notch, then 12m iron ladder up to tunnel, don't go without light. At tunnel exit decided to head to Viš, already in mists and black clouds at times, so dropped idea temporarily and went down to Corsi hut. Nice lying in sun, watching noisy climbers in wall above hut... Around 12h Moses' Notch looked friendly, decided to go at least there. When on notch, figured no big weather change, so went to Viš too. Fog there, no views, cold. Only us. Fog cleared occasionally, views all around. Few such moments sadly. Descended to and past Corsi hut, cooled in plentiful pools. Nice tour despite bad weather right on Viš summit.

hello all readers of this forum, very nice that you constantly visit hills also from this side of Italy-FJK, that you comment trips, upload pictures etc. something I would ask you, as head of mtn.paths and vice president PD CAI Tarvisio we don't want to see that some write on rocks or anywhere (look picture above no.22 "viš") in no language (what would you say if you found somewhere on Triglav rocks written in Italian "TRICORNO"?) because we already have enough of our Italians who write/scratch everywhere on mtn.paths where not needed, path marking in our mountains is and should be that of our region, sometimes in some places there is none but we will try (if you help us with your welcome message) to install new ones, thanks in advance and no hard feelings.mežikanje

Alessio, I saw this inscription already before, it's not so "new"....probably no one approves such ...don't know if it's inscription or provocation or vandalism....Something else would be bilingual direction sign...

It was already there in August 2011.

hello Ksena and others, with us direction signs we place officially only on CAI mtn.paths because those are marked white-red with additional number and usually don't lead to any summit various exceptions, different system if I look at yours, wouldn't be bad I think if you could write something about it to sentieri@caitarvisio.it(my address at PD CAI Tarvisio) and with that I would try at CAI-FVG (FJK PD federation) if something could be done to install direction sign at certain place only with summits (CANIN-MANGART-MONTASIO-JOF FUART etc...), for bilingual signs it would be I think quite difficult (if possible it would be at least trilingual: Italian-Slovenian-German) because already hard to install them at some passes between Slovenia and FJK according to certain plan "paths without borders", best regards.

PD Medvode this time on two-day trip in Western Julians. First day ascended from Jezerska valley along Bela voda valley to bivouacs Gorizia and via Zgornja Škrbina to entry of Centenary Path. Seems to me that, at least this year, access to this saddle much more comfortable than to the right Krniška škrbina where Centenary Path "exits". Followed lounging on grasses above Koča Corsi where we slept. Next day via Anita Goitan then to Viš and then descent to Mojzesova škrbina. Plan also Koštrunove špice but group size (18) requires much more time and caution so due to hour changed plan returned to Corsi and then via nice "tolmunska" path to start. Weather not ideal but nature offered everything else. Oh yes they'll see me again these parts. Always beautiful.

Ah, then we met; finally before the saddle on that traverse by the wall (18). mežikanje

The path over M. Cregnedul brought us to Corsi; due to the weather we also skipped Koštrunove špice.

20.7.2019-The whole 10 hours and 30 minutes lasted the fairy tale of ascents and descents that started in Jezerska valley by the Rio Bianco stream. We continued past the Brunner hut to the Gorizia bivouac. At the bivouac we turn south over scree towards the Alta di Rio Bianco notch (2150m). Soon we reach the first cables. Follows the hardest part of the path, where we must descend vertically into the narrow notch. At the end of this path there is a long tunnel. On the way through the tunnel there are also bends and descents on ladders, so a headlamp is mandatory. When we come out of the tunnel, a short traverse of the steep slope to Krniška notch follows. From the notch we descend scree and on a traceable little path we go right to the marked path to Trbiška škrbinica (Forcella di Riofreddo) where the Anita Goitan path begins. We continue on the south side of Divja koza, at the notch between Mala špica and Divja koza we go south because it is a bit harder but much nicer as you must descend vertically in the narrow gully with the help of cables, foot pegs and some pitons towards the notch between Mala špica and Turn. At the end we traverse the wall of Gamsove matere on sheer ledges, then we join the normal path to Viš. We also jump to the summit a bit and back down to the junction towards Škrbina zadnje Špranje-(Mojzes). From the notch we continue on the Anita Goitan path which soon brings us to Koštrunove špice. The summit is pure madness and the legacy of past wars. From the top of Koštrunove špice follows the descent to Škrbina prednje špranje on path 626. The path is very demanding because it is unsecured and runs on grassy terrain, very steep and in wet weather it can be even more dangerous. From Škrbina prednje špranje follows the descent to the saddle Passo degli Scalini (2022m), from where we continue towards koča Brazza and planina Pecol where we had arranged transport to our starting point by the white stream, INCREDIBLE but TRUE,,, IN ONE DAY.
