Cima Vallona, Pitturina Ridge

Starting point similar to Cavalino in Digon valley, where we park right after the junction to casera Melin. Half an hour on partially asphalted narrow road and past the pasture uphill on the path that once served for building the power line to Vallona saddle. When the larches thin out, the view captures jagged Croda Longerin; behind it peeks familiar Palombino; above us is our peak and west of it the ridge to Cavalino. For the approach we chose the ridge east of the peak, since, knowing that the front line ran there, we assumed it was fully passable. Rocky peak (2532 m) is nothing special, views exceptional . After short descent on western ridge starts ferrata D'Ambros, which mainly sticks to the ridge where the front ran throughout . This time we ended the traverse at Forcella Cavalino, exactly where a couple of months ago we started the summit climb to Cavalino. Since ascent to it would prolong the thing by an hour, we decided for descent. Lower down at Pian di Formagio pasture we made wrong decision and to avoid walking on the access road to the pasture, chose path 161 in east direction. Unfortunately bushwhacking through windthrow aftermath took quite some time and energy. Also missed shortcut branch in that chaos and thus ended up back at Melin pasture. Well, still less than half an hour of road to car – would have driven to pasture in morning Let pictures speak further
