Circular tour of eastern Jelovica

On a fresh day I managed to do a longer tour of the remaining eastern part of Jelovica.
I start right in Železniki (park on the right immediately at the turnoff to Rudno, Dražgoše). Further, the gravel road climbs gradually but at length to the top plateau of Jelovica - Rastoke 1122m, to there 12.5 km and 1h 25min. There I turn left to Gozdrskih koč and Ledin. Further, at the intersection I go uphill on the road. This one according to the map doesn't go on the upper path or towards Soriška pl., but after climbs eventually descends towards Prtovč. So it's better after viewing Ledin to go back to Rovtarica and Ribčeva pl. and climb to the upper road that leads to Soriška pl. Anyway, I wandered a bit on the slopes of Pl. Klom plateau and descended via Pl. Pečane to the upper road that holds to Soriška pl. Surprisingly in these overgrown forests I didn't run into a bear, which is said to linger here. But in some thicket I scared a big rooster, which is now losing summer feathers, growing winter ones, so it flew poorly. The final section to Soriška pl. is nice but also long, going mostly slightly downhill. There I catch my breath a bit at the new hut outside on the bench. Next a breakneck descent awaited me, when I sped down with the bike at 78 km/h. Lucky I changed the brake pads. At Zg. Sorica I turn left on gravel past Zg. Danje-Zabrdo and Torka to Povden pass 1264m with mostly climbs. From there on slightly stony but still quite rideable pl. paths to Prtovča. Then followed just one wonderful fast descent to Železniki. 
The tour was quite long and pretty demanding, so I recommend it to cyclists with solid fitness and MTB bike (last descent from Povdna). But the tour is extremely beautiful, as we ride on an unpopulated karst forest plateau.
Approx 58km, riding time 5h 21min, avg speed 10.8 due to some scrambling.

Nice long trip you did, viharnik, just want to remind you that I learned yesterday how fast Robič went that time when he crashed into the slow car with trailer in Plavški Rovt (from acquaintance Tilkot)..: the answer is - barely over 30 km/h. So it doesn't take much. The outcome of the accident you surely know..
78 is more than twice as much.
Please, rather don't exaggerate, because as you see, it happens even to the most trained.

That much went on the first long upper plain when I hunched even more into the lee. Tires already howling decently because of terrain profile. Otherwise mates sometimes rode behind trucks from Ljubelj almost 90km/h. Speed dangerous and kind of drug I can't resist after slow climbs and cherry on the cake after tour. Of course then watch road bumps, holes, car encounters, bends, rationalize and slow down where something might surprise me so I can still swerve aside. Stopping distance with bike even with disc brakes much longer than car brakes, so need to be extra careful and alert. I take note of your well-meant advice, Heinz. Lp!

bravo, one of the nicer and more demanding tours in our area. I rode it a few years ago, and it needs to be repeated.
The descent from Siriška planina can be wild yeah. I also used to break speed records there sometimes, but I calmed down soon. It's a clear section though, with pretty good asphalt. Which of course doesn't mean that speeding is smart. But as viharnik said. Feels good after the slow climb.

So I don't open a new topic. I also wandered around these parts by bike yesterday. Started from Železniki and rode on the main road to Podrošt and there bit into the climb to Sorica and further to Rotka. There I turned towards Zgornje Danje and under the southern slopes of Ratitovec, through villages Zg. Danje, Zabrdo and Torka cycled to Povden saddle. From there an enjoyable descent to Prtovč, just at the beginning had to carry the bike a bit due to fallen trees. From Prtovč then climb to the hunting hut and descent to Podlonka and further to the valley. Nice trip, especially the part from Rotka to Povden, where you can admire nice views of Škofjeloško and Cerkljansko hills all the time. And a bit of stats: ridden 35.5 km, about 950 m elevation gain and riding time just under 2.5 hours.

Today I did one of my favorite tours on Jelovica. And it was really pleasant and in the shade of fir forests not hot at all
Start in Železniki and climb past Rudno and Rastovka to Rovtarica. Go towards Bohinjska Bistrica, but after a few 100m turn left from the "main" road towards Pečana and Ratitovec. The path climbs for a while longer, when we pass the windthrow area then follows a super descent to the intersection, where I went right towards planina Pečana (left Soriška planina). From there further towards Pl. Klom, which is the highest point of today's tour. On this section the bike had to be carried a few times. From Klom just descent towards Jesenovec, where I go right and continue descent to Prtovča. Then just descent to Železniki, on which great caution was needed due to dense traffic towards Prtovč.
Nice and fairly demanding little tour, at the end it showed 41.6 km and 1178 elev. The time was nicely extended by raspberries along the way, which I just couldn't resist and there are really a lot here
Also Ratitovec was obviously very crowded today, as all starting points I passed today were full of cars.

Today again a nice loop on Jelovica. Could say almost around Ratitovec.
Start from Železniki, where the climb towards Prtovč starts right away. There first had to do customs formalities (raspberries), then turn right towards the hunting hut. Past it continue climb to Jesenovec, where go towards planina Klom. Up to here the path climbs all the time, from here on besides the climb the surface also gets worse and slopes steeper . Past Klom I arrive at Vratc and further towards Pečani. Follows more or less only descent, until I reach the main road Boh. Bistrica Soriška planina. Here a little climb to Soriška planina, then only descent to Podrošt and on to Železniki.
Nice tour, which thank God spends a lot of time in the shade of fir forests, so heat is not bothering. Met tons of people, cyclists and hikers alike. All starting points for Ratitovec packed with metal. At the end it added up to good 46 km and 1200 elev. In short, enjoyment in every meter ridden.

After morning tea and flancat on Ratitovec, this nice weather motivated me to do another nice mtb tour after lunch. From Železniki climb to Hujske and descend to Rudno. Here start climbing towards Rastovka, but already before the top turn towards Dražgoše. Down the southern slopes of Dražgoška gora to the village, from where turn towards Jamnik. After about a km turn towards Kališe, from there climb to Sv. križ. From there via Površnica back to Dražgoše, where I stop at the log cabin for coffee. Finish with descent back to start.
Really nice short tour, which took place in true autumn idyll. Weather perfect for biking, which was visible on the terrain too, as I met quite a few cyclists. At the end it totalled a good 33 km.

When you can't decide for foot or bike, logical combination of both. So today I head to Prtovč, where I mount the bike and ride towards Ratitovec. At Prtovč turn right and past the hunting hut Na Toli ride to Jesenovec. Here go left towards planina Klom. Up to here really nice, locally demanding climb, especially from the barrier at Jesenovec on, where there was also very little shade. After short break at the planina ride across it and climb above the planina to the road, on which ride under Kosmati vrh towards Vratc. To the latter some small descent. Here swap roles with the bike and so head to the hut, where I strengthen with fresh flancat. Follows return and (enjoyable) descent back to Prtovč. Nice, short and moderately demanding tour, which was additionally made harder by the heat.
But at Ratitovec at this time everything full of flowers, so lovers of that and herbs certainly get their money's worth. Today there were quite a few.
