Today from Mač... to the top... Trail to the junction where the path from Jakob joins is dry all the way, then some nasty snow drifts on the trail, which we overcome with some sinking and tangling in branches. Summit is dry.

Finally a real snow tour. In the morning I start walking from the shooting range in Preddvor. Along the Bistrica stream and past the climbing crag. Snow is about 20cm, just right. Before the stream gorge I turn right up the slope on the hunting path, which higher up brings me to the ridge. I chose this path hoping the ridge would be blown clear and walking easier. That was true, but I forgot about the wind, which today was blowing quite strongly. The ridge path nicely brought me to the ridge of Javorov vrh. Here I turn left and along the marked path along the ridge to the top of Cjanovca. The wind didn't let up, it was carrying snow like mad, so I skipped the ascent to Srednji vrh. I descended to Dolga njiva, but the wind accompanied me for a while longer below the shepherd's hut. Here I came across someone's track heading towards Mali Grintovec, so walking was a bit easier and no searching, since there are lots of fallen trees everywhere. At about 1400m I plunge into fog and along the steep path towards Mače and then end the loop in Nova vas. No crust on the path, new snow is quite wind-blown, so the tour is safe from avalanches. Regards Miro

Hi, tomorrow I plan to go to Cjanovca from Jakob, interested how the path is. Are crampons and gaiters enough or should I have an ice axe too (beginner on such snowy paths - do you recommend some other paths to try crampons, gaiters etc.)? thanks, regards domenc

For today's ascent I choose Cjanovca from Mač. First along the marked (Mačenska pot), then direct up the snowy grass (off-trail), just below the summit dwarf pines await me, over which I went, descended past the hunting hut and back to the valley. Snow only about 5cm, the path lower down quite muddy, slippery, especially the roots. When returning there was very thick fog.

Yesterday afternoon to Cjanovca from Mač, along Mačenska pot and before the "little forest" direct up. The path is trodden, the "direct" part first hard snow (ideal for crampons), higher up the snow has already softened. Super trip.

Today to Cjanovca from Preddvor. Up right past Sv. Jakob, past the spring below Javorov vrh. Ridge running to the foot of Cjanovca really drags on. After about twenty minutes ascent we hit snow. It's over half a meter for sure. There were footprints that didn't break through even on return. We walk on snow only about twenty minutes and then to Cjanovca summit the path is dry. Too bad no sun today. Back along the whole ridge to Javorov vrh and from there to Potoška gora. Descent from Potoška gora to Sv. Jakob ended the several-hour tour. Iskrska hut at Sv. Jakob open all week except Monday-very commendable.

The day before yesterday (Saturday) on skis. Heartfelt thanks to the predecessor for tracks to Kozjek. Over Zaplata wind, tough. Without skis I would have turned back. Below the summit of Cjanovca I got stuck in thick fog. Unfortunately the descent was accordingly - almost blind. What a shame ... Well, down it went fine all the way to the hut at Kozjek and further. Lower a bit forced but all to Mač! About blisters I'd rather not. Regards.

Cjanovca & Srednji Vrh (above pl. Dolga njiva) Today on circular tour, starting from first parking above Mač, then "on road and along road" to shelter at Hudič.Boršt, from there towards sv.Jakob and to saddle below Javor.vrh – to here no snow on path, eastern ridge to Cjanovca of course snowy - up it goes fine, trampled, no issues, currently gaiters most needed of all. Also today windy here, but path goes just enough to south side or side of hill so wind not bothersome. At ridge top (around 1.850m) good 10 cm snow, locally drifted more. Also to Srednji Vrh well trampled, maybe too much, as downhill towards "hut" at Dolga njiva, past noon when sun softens snow, quite slippery, ... well few 100m a bit nasty downhill also below pasture, then in forest – even before lower crossing Kališče – Hudičev boršt, no more snow. Forest road to last junction for Kališče newly gravelled and fixed, nice for New Year!

Has anyone been recently to Cjanovca/Srednji vrh from Spodnja Kokra direction? On PZS.si it says one part of path closed (due to fire). Can one get past at all?

Kafetarca, yes, of course possible, all normally passable. If you go marked past hut at Čemšenik, you won't even know there was fire nearby (burned at nearby Baba). Baba also normally passable, so just path under feet.

Behind summit there's some snow patch, no obstacle at all, south flank bare to top.
