From Tarvisio to Pontebba and from there through Studena Alta to Aupa, where just before the sign marking the start of the settlement, I turn left onto a narrow road that after a few kilometers brings me to the head of the valley under Crete di Gleris, where I park before the barrier. I start along the road until the CAI 430 path branches right into the forest, follow it to the junction where 430 turns left to Pecora saddle, I continue to Vacca saddle. From there right to the ruins and a bit above them to the summit. Gorgeous views across the valley to Grauzaria and Sernio, nearby Chiavals, Vualt below above Dordolle and of course the summit head of Zuc dal Bora. In the left background majestic Montasio, as Kugy described: "Wherever it appears, no need to look at the map; no doubt, that's it - Montasio". Rest, snack, more rest, dessert, then descent. This time the same path, hope for a circular route soon. Below near the start a short detour to the waterfalls where we refresh ourselves, then to the car and home. Great tour, but not recommended in summer heat as you are in the sun all the way to Vacca saddle even starting early.
