Creta di Timau and Cima Avostanis

At the settlement of Cleulis we turned yesterday on a nice sunny Sunday towards the Pramosio pasture. A beautiful gravel road quickly brings us to the pasture. From there we descend along the access road to the quarry, enter the quarry area and go a bit below the quarry, where we already spot an arrow on the rock leading across a gully to the right. There we follow the red-brown spots and along a modest path for about 20 minutes and already reach the old mulatiera, which is incredibly well laid out, once it was also marked, now it's overgrown in places and completely unmaintained. It leads us along the southern slopes of Creta di Timau all the way to a distinct saddle from where a beautiful view opens to the west. Along the grasses that show no particular difficulties we head along the spots on the western ridge where we soon reach the summit. The view is wonderful and boundless, shared with some others who climbed to the summit that day. Later we descend along the mulatiera that leads to the summit from the east, cross to the left and climb up the easy path to Cima Avostanis (Blaustein), sit a bit on the summit and look at the Gail Valley, then descend along the southern slopes towards Pramosio lake and there we encounter a helicopter of the Italian civil protection rescuing in the mountains. In conversation with the pilot we learn that last year he rescued in the notable "rescue of Belgians" action and transported most of them to Log pod Mangrtom, he is based in Tolmezzo. Lower down we sit a bit more by the lake, then via the Pramosio saddle over which we had already walked years ago descend back to the pasture and home.

These sunny days really invite us to the mountains. Since I've neglected the mountains above Timau a bit this year, it was high time to visit the bold ridges above the tawny meadows. We started at Pramosio pasture, climbed to the lake and continued to the summit, where we enjoyed endless views, then descended the ridge path to the saddle and continued along the traverse path past the caverns below Cima Avostanis and down to the lake, where by the bivouac on the upper Pramosio pasture we warmed ourselves in the warm autumn sun, and then returned to the pasture.

Sometimes it's enough to find the right ones and the right ones (that's her, the right one, and those two, the right ones), wherever, and the day is perfect. Even without a concrete summit, although with relatively little walking and despite a more foggy than sunny day. This time without the princess.
We wanted somewhere we hadn't been. We didn't care if we'd step on both two-thousanders, or just one, or just dip our feet, so to speak, in the high mountain lake. We had all that and none of it and just because of that or despite it we had an incredibly great time.
We went to the Carnic Alps, a bit beyond Paluzza, above the hamlet Cleulis, to Pramosio pasture, actually both, the upper one – 1940m and the lower – 1521m and of course we circled Lake Avostanis too.
Cheese, cottage cheese and yogurts from the pasture were just the icing on the cake.

Sometimes a little is a lot, even very much. And sometimes more than big is barely enough or not even.
But I have just the right amount nasmeh

I realize that the Carnians cause serious addiction, as I've visited them already the third Saturday in a row.mežikanje

We visited the beautiful Cima Avostanis, whose summit slope reminds me a lot in skiing terms of Grintavec's roof. I'm from home under KSA and often draw parallels...zavijanje z očmi

The gravel road to Pramosio pasture was decently icy and the first hour of walking we mostly thought about how we'd get back to the starting point. The next few we immensely enjoyed the wonderful views and enjoyable turns all the way to the car.
Maybe just warn that the exposed summit slope (as expected) was very windblown, which made the ascent on skis a bit tricky.

Otherwise a very nice and varied tour overall with view to nearby Colians and the lagoon Gradež shining in the sun.

ps: the steel horse thanks to good pilot and navigation on his right survived the drive to the valley without scratches.mežikanje

Carnians are the law velik nasmeh. They have everything, from incredibly rocky peaks to pleasantly green slopes. Creta di Timau is more on the green side but that fits too nasmeh. The nicest access is via path 402 which takes you comfortably around on the mulatiera right at the Austrian border to the summit. Whoever goes here shouldn't miss the caves where there used to be machine gun nests to the strong spring right under the path that gushes 3 cubic meters of water per second eek. Snow patches no longer pose any obstacle.

The road to Pramosio pasture is normally drivable, further up in the summit area some snow, but it didn't pose problems.

First we went to Avostanis, then also to Creta di Timau.

Beautiful places... and, for those who like climbing, nice routes, just better avoid Giljotina (I think around 6a), because a huge flake is just waiting for gravity to win one day.

We started on path 402 and, first through forest, past the lower Palgrande pasture along a comfortable mulatiera with nice views of the north face of Creta di Timau climb to the upper Palgrande pasture. On the pasture it's so nice that you can't pass without a longer breaknasmeh An older man was cleaning the fireplace in the shelter-former shepherds' dwelling, at the other end of the yard we peeked into a neat bivouac. Further across wide pastures of already tawny grasses bordered by larches partly clad in autumn colors, we traverse in gentle ascent to the last short steep part before the saddle. Here the slopes are covered with blueberries (already shedding phase) and cranberries. A short ascent along the ridge strewn with front remnants and already we enjoy the views from the summit. We started the descent along the west ridge; you more sense the path than see it, but for peace of mind rare ancient red dots care, here and there even quite new ones. At the saddle some 150m lower the path-mulatiera is already quite clear-here the first markings appear. You can see that this path is extremely rarely used, so it's no longer in newer Tabacco. It joins the already known descent path from Pramosio pasture at a small chapel 20 min above the village where it says Gamspitz. Actually that's the sign for the alpinists' descent path, which joined ours a couple minutes higher. Along the stone-paved path we descend right into the village center.

By car to Planina at around 1500m. Gravel road but maintained. No-entry sign is already somewhere halfway between valley and planina but everyone drives up. Along closed road and marked path to top of Creta and along ridge to Cima A. Descent past lake, two climbed the wall and back to planina and over pass to Austria and back home.
