Along the FVG1 cycle path from the Ratece border crossing via Trbiž-Tablja-Humin; marked with brown signs or stickers on poles: from border to Trbiž 0.30, to Tablja/Pontebba 1.25, to Kluže?/Chiusaforte 1.50, to Resiutta 2.10, to Moggio Udinese 2.20, to Carnia/Amaro road junction 2.40, to Carnia 2.45, to Venzone 3.00, to Humin/Gemona del Friuli 3.20 (train stations); return by train to Trbiž Zeleni Gozd/Tarvisio Boscoverde; in summer on Saturdays and Sundays trains in the afternoon almost every hour and a half, on weekdays in the afternoons only twice; train + bike tickets at multilingual machine inside the station in Humin (adult price €9.45). The whole path is on asphalt; crossing in Tablja/Pontebba goes along the road through the whole village and outside the village turns right onto the old railway; in Moggio Udinese the cycle path along the railway ends, turn right under the main road and I wouldn't recommend continuing to Carnia on the main road because everyone speeds there (me too) and it's easier and safer to go towards Moggio over the Fella stream bridge and about 300 meters further at the junction turn left towards "Campiolo" and continue straight (never right, only straight) to the Carnia/Amaro road turnoff, here carefully, left and unfortunately you'll have to cross the main road bridge over the Fella stream and then straight on the old road to the village of Carnia (look at signs/stickers on poles, sometimes the right path goes a bit left and right in villages), cross the whole village and then for a good kilometer on the main road (wild traffic, watch out) and on a small hill right (sign on pole) on the old road of the abandoned village, meet the main road again and about 200 meters further turn left and cross the road and continue on the inner narrow winding road to Venzone (signs on poles), through the old village back to the main road, cross and continue on the right side for a good kilometer and then right (signpost) and immediately straight on the old railway track towards Humin/Gemona, in the town the path goes a bit on the main inner road first 500/600 meters (look at sign to center or train station) and then it's cycle path again, always follow signs with drawn train station and that's it. The cycle path continues to Videm/Udine and to the sea Grado but it's more tricky because it goes through villages and roads all the time where you have to follow signs/stickers on poles well, you quickly get lost in some village and then....for some info if you speak "furlan" it will work, otherwise they might invite you for a glass of homemade wine ("anin a bevi un taj") in some tavern and whatever happens.

They have recently opened a new section from Moggio Udinese to Carnia, hallelujah! It took a very, very, very long time to renovate this part and thank God there is no need to go on the main road anymore (though I always went via the variant from Campiolo to the other side of the Fella river); asphalted all the way to Gemona/Humin, only one part some 700 m is gravel a bit after Venzone (in Venzone to Humin avoid main road, from old village center right, cross main road, left 30 m further and then right on the downhill road - sign "stazione"/station - under rail bridge then left and immediately right, follow FVG 1a Gemona signs on gravel); for train return check www.rfi.it timetables also in English.

www.rfi.it ....... stations ....... Tarvisio Boscoverde ..... train times. On www.rfi.it click right on EN (English), I think it will be easier for you.

On this page in ENTRA IN STAZIONE enter the Italian name of the station (Udine, Monfalcone, Trieste, etc.) https://www.rfi.it/ Click on the arrow and get current departures/arrivals. Then click on ORARI TRENI and on the same page also on "Quadri orario on line" Then the procedure is the same as I wrote above for Tarvisio Boscoverde. Simple (once you figure it out)

I'll add a bit more, look at those trains with the bike sign (usually ALPE ADRIA LINE), on Saturday and Sunday afternoons there are quite a few, on weekday afternoons only one; if you miss the train by chance or there's a strike (like the last 2 weeks ) bike shuttle for 6 or 8 people (Valentino, mobile +39 3483552037) from Venzone to Tarvisio charges 120€ for the ride because you share with others, recommend a stop at refreshment places at former stations in Chiusaforte and Resiutta and of course in the old town Venzone; I also went to Parco Cormor in Udine/Videm but from Humin onwards the track goes nearby on asphalted inner roads in settlements where you have to look well at signs/small signs because you miss the right direction right away
