Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel

This ferrata has two peculiarities. Its name features an *Š*, as it's also written on all the signposts around it. I don't recall anything similar in the Dolomites. The second peculiarity is the endless ladder, with which the army overcame the extremely steep step to the upper level. Peg by peg, one above the other, quite comfortable, but long and exposed. Definitely B/C difficulty. Beside it, in all its grandeur, roars a mighty waterfall, this time extremely watery and magnificent. We wondered several times why we hadn't been around here before nasmeh.

The answer is pretty clear to us. We've never hit so much snow at this time of year before. Usually we'd climb to the summits, this time we aimed to explore still untraveled paths, tiny gems that had waited for us too long, way too long nasmeh. That's why we took a pretty winding route that's hard to describe briefly. More details in the photo story, more on ZS.

Some access info for Tofane (mid-July 2024):

Tofana di Rozes ... Lipella accessible to *Tre Ditta*, shower in lower part guaranteed velik nasmeh. Roof under snow, same for large part of descent in lower section.
Tofana di Mezzo ... Olivieri and Agilo ferratas passable and no snow issues.
Tofana di Dentro ... Formentor ferrata NOT passable due to snow, bypass path 407 officially closed.
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Parking at Falzarego pass near the refreshment stand. Free parking, but it fills up quickly1
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Along the promenade marked 402 we head towards the Travenanzes saddle. So early we are alone2
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Most of the path follows the military mule track, a short section goes across the ski slope3
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel At the saddle the first sun catches us. Mornings are wonderful, later it usually clouds over4
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel The view of Fanes and all sorts of Pizes is also wonderful :) There is the beautiful ferrata Tomaselli5
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Tracks of a mountain dinosaur :)6
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel These are traces of a sadder history. We are on Cima Falzarego7
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Everything around is riddled with remnants of the first war. Here the main front ran8
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Col dei Bos, this time from the other side. On it runs the magnificent and demanding ferrata degli Alpini9
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel From the top we descend on our own into the Travenanzes valley, where we pick up path 40410
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Monte Ciaval, which we just visited. We also climbed it from this valley a few years ago over endless scree11
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Šara del Minighel with Š. Ladins also use this letter apparently. We go in the direction of the ferrata12
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel After the first introductory bars we reach a small clearing with a nice view of the exceptionally high Pišandro del Majarié waterfall13
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Then follow endless heavenly stemples, most still from the original installation14
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel All are curved upwards at the edges, so shoes do not slip over the rung15
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel There are huge wedges, but the steepness is also exceptional. This is not for everyone.16
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel View back. The depth is significant, there must be no fear of exposure here.17
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Along this special ladder, the safety cable is installed throughout.18
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel After exiting the ferrata and some more walking, a path fork awaits us. First we head to the Rif. Giussani hut.19
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Tofane di Mezzo massif along the path. The pointed mountain on the left has its own name Nemesis.20
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Something small on Tofane tempted us, but we quickly forget it given the situation :)21
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Rifugio Giussani, which we always gladly return to.22
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel We watch people who want to ascend Tofana di Rozes. Many turn back already at the first snow patch.23
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel The hut is constantly being renovated. This time a completely new terrace, although the old one wasn't lacking much.24
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel It is under the CAI patronage, but for two generations run by the Dapoz family.25
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel The interior is spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished, staff friendly, and prices reasonable too.26
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel He, he .... maybe it should be written in Slovenian too :)27
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel After a dose of goodies we say goodbye and greet the mountain warden on the way :)28
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel At first we return along the approach path, but with completely different views.29
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Back at the direction sign. This time we turn right onto bypass path 403. Straight down is the already traversed ferrata.30
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel The starting section is level and completely easy ...31
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Soon however it drops steeply down. The path is wide, only a little more caution is required.32
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Another fork. The shortcut turns left under the waterfall here, we go right on the longer route :)33
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel The sun shines in the right direction and the Travenanzes valley reveals itself in all its beauty.34
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Eventually we reach the lowest point at around 1800 m, i.e. over 300 m below the parking lot :)35
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Hmm, trouble in sight. The water is high and raging, the washed-up logs are not exactly a model of reliability.36
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel The path should run on the other bank, but it's all been washed away. We were looking for a suitable place to cross numerous tributaries.37
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Shoes off and across as soon as possible. Otherwise it won't work...38
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Fortunately everything stays dry, the feet will dry in no time. Followed by a short break in pleasant coolness.39
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel There is really a huge amount of water, the tributaries raging. It is very noticeable that there is quite a lot of snow in the high mountains.40
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Waterfall Pišandro del Majarié. The wind carries away its spray. The Ferata Šara del Minighel runs to the right of it.41
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel Cheap overnight stay. The lads are just pitching the tent, and next to it is a trough with running water.42
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel We slowly ascend the valley, the sun beats down with full force...43
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel The challenges just don't end :). This is already the third stream crossing.44
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel View back on Tofano di Mezzo.45
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel View ahead towards the Col dei Bos saddle and path 404. But we are returning to the Travenanzes saddle via path 401.46
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel One last look back. We came from the screes far down there.47
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel The Fanesi greet us once again. The weather has changed, clouds have taken center stage.48
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel We're already over the saddle. Only the descent to Falzarego Pass remains.49
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel It's late for us, so there aren't many cars left. The Lagazuoi gondola is still running.50
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel We notice this peculiarity for the first time... the little dog has to carry its own snack :)51
Dolomites d'Ampezzo - Via Ferrata Šara del Minighel The track log of this exploration :) 18 km and 1900 m of ascent accumulated.52
