This year the sight of Double Lake in the Valley of Seven Lakes shook me. The Slovenian natural jewel has turned into a green, stinking puddle. The mountain hut nearby dammed the stream feeding the lake many years ago and uses the water for hikers' needs who come to admire what I think is Slovenia's most beautiful corner. What will we admire when the lakes disappear??? Will we let the lake vanish for our comfort in the mountains, so Zlatorog Valley's beauties live only in tales?

Ejca, read the article on this topic in Thursday's Delo by Silvestra Rogelj Petrič, who explains very professionally why it happened. The main cause are the fish stocked years ago that disturbed the natural balance in the lake. Of course it didn't happen in one year. It is true that a modern sewage plant would need to be built, but the article shows that this is not the cause at all. Rescuing the lake is a big problem. The end of the article lists solutions that are long-term.

Fish have been in the lakes for over 20 years; it's interesting that those in Krn Lake have no effect on the algae whatsoever—what expertise!? Shit is to blame for everything, whether we like it or not.

I fully agree with you. But recently the biologist whom PZS 'delegated' to Studio at 17, on the question that there are also fish in Krn Lake, answered that not every lake reacts the same to the presence of introduced fish. The same gentleman called the hut's impact on the situation at Double Lake negligibly small... From afar you could see that he wasn't speaking with his own mind but in favor of the organization that sent him to the radio.

Recently I was by the lake.. I'm not an expert but fish don't eat feces nor do they produce so much as to be guilty. Let a modern sewage plant be built for the hut and everything will be sorted. PZS should stop fooling itself, its membership and the Slovenian public. Do all in PZS really think we are fools who fall for every stupid word? What really angers me most is when someone takes me for an idiot and explains nonsense. Then they are offended when I tell them I don't believe them because there's no logic...

Via Komarča yesterday conditions were dry all the way to the top, where the path levels out and turns into the forest. There snow started. To Planina Viševnik I was breaking trail fully, as there was no predecessor ahead of me. Searching for the drying lake I royally missed the path through quarter-meter deep snow and reached it via a somewhat longer route. The lake was in shade, as was the next target - Planina Viševnik. Towards Planina Ovčarija the sun came out, giving a nice contrast to the golden yellow larches and fresh snow on them. At Ovčarija it was truly fairy-tale like. Then to Double Lake via Prode. Someone had already broken through to there and "marked" the path. At Double Lake it was a real autumn-winter fairy tale. Better see more in pictures. Back via Black Lake to the car at Savica. Through the ramp above Stara Fužina to Planina Blato. The road is dry, broken branches removed. Towards Planina Jezero snow starts soon. There is more of it with each pasture. The trail is trodden all the way to Double Lake. Weather today cloudy. Larches along the path have already dropped most of their needles. Further towards Ledvička I soon turned back. Snowshoes or touring skis would be good. Back the same way. A few pics: http://www.petersfoto.si/thumbnails.php?album=datebrowse&date=2020-10-19 http://www.petersfoto.si

@PFranci. I'm glad we met yesterday. The above comment is exactly what we were talking about on Hrbi.net

True. I say better a distortion than a comment from home. And one more comparison of Ledvička.

“Better distortion than comment from home?” Interesting.
