Guide Marjan led us through the hinterland of Slovenian Istria on a wonderful January Sunday. The weather was cold in the morning, but it warmed up to 13 degrees during the day and we walked part of the path in short sleeves. We drove to Marezige, a bit further, turned left downhill to the village of Župančiči. The path is easy, we enjoyed the sun, pines, chatting. Past the Supot waterfall (now everything dry...) and on to Koštabona, where there is the church of St. Cosmas and Damian. And another little church, St. Andrew's. Some houses in Koštabona are really worth admiring, superbly renovated. This is also the birthplace of our Elda Viler. Nice views towards Slavnik, Kojnik, Golič, all the way to Žbevnice, a bit snowy. We admired vine and olive groves. After a short stop we descended to the Dragonja valley, crossed the Pinjevec stream. On the way we came to a beautifully arranged house, lavender plantation, little houses....like paradise. Then to the cliff, really worth seeing. We climbed to the village Labor and church of St. Martin, then down to Župančiči. Total 15 km, 500 m gain. In Marezige short stop at wine fountain, sea view, pastry shop visit. Finale bobiči and refosco at Jakomin in Pobeghi. Thanks to guide Marjan jump into unknown sunny hinterland of Slovenian Istria, escape from all-day fog....surely come again.
