I had to check a bit how it is under Krn and I went.. for an afternoon walk up there. I parked right in Drežniške Ravne to extend the whole tour, then at the trough where there is parking and also the starting point of routes to Krasji vrh, Krn, Vrata, Krnčica.., turned right towards Zapleč pasture. The path through the forest is sprinkled with pine needles and especially colorful and beautiful at this time. Snow patches covering the pastures started to appear a little below Zapleč pasture around 1200m, higher up I sank even over my ankles. On slopes towards Vrata there is less snow, most of it is drifted on the mule tracks themselves leading to various places. The pastures were deserted, only the sound of a chainsaw could be heard. Yes, wood for winter must be prepared.

Today I repeated the already described path, actually extended it to the Path of Peace and walked the Open-Air Museum Zaprikraj. Nice morning, foggy in the valley.... up to Planina Zapleč the sun was still hiding behind Krnsko Pogorje, then started gradually lighting all peaks. Past pl. Zaprikraj with my two dogs jezik I continued on the only cart track going south towards Golobar. About half an hour walk from planina Zaprikraj you can already see first remnants of war carnage, then signs lead through, over, between trenches and other testimonies of what happened here during WWI. Nicely preserved, nicely restored where needed and really worth seeing. Actually the whole Path of Peace is worth seeing.

Two years ago I "served" on Zaprikraj pasture for a weekend, went to Krn and also checked out that museum. Some "srhi" skipped me during the tours of these defensive positions.

Accidents of ski tourers. Published on siol/24ur website:

On pasture Zaprikaj above Kobarid, an avalanche carried away a ski tourer. "He stayed outside the avalanche, was conscious all the time and called us himself," said Žarko Trušnovec, head of GRS Tolmin station. He couldn't descend alone, so ten mountain rescuers came to help.
Trušnovec explained that the skier, a local from Tolmin, was lightly injured. He was supposedly skiing alone, but when rescuers reached him, two Austrians were with him.

At 14:55 rescuers received a call that a ski tourer above Hribarice below Kanjavec pasture needs help. Details not yet known.

Arso writes that especially dangerous are steeper slopes and places with drifted snow above 1200 m, where with minor load on the snow cover you can trigger an avalanche of partially bonded snow.

After a long, almost 4-month forced break, first real ascent and testing the endurance of a broken ankle. Due to the late hour, I chose pastures Zapleč and Zaprikraj, then onwards as far as possible. The beauty of the pastures always amazes me, on Thursday, 3.7.2014 it was especially magical. Initially I planned for Lopatnik, but calm cows resting on the rounded pasture on Zapleč lured me further to Zaprikraj pasture. From there I planned towards Vršič, but instead I climbed along the pasture fence over steep mountain pastures and then sank into pink meadows. Hoping to reach Vršič summit and then the mule track, I pushed through steep grasses towards the top. Since it receded with every step and the steepness increased, I spared my barely healed ankle and turned back just below the summit and carefully descended to the valley. Instead of over the beautiful pastures, I returned to the starting point above Drežniške Ravne by road to check drivability. In the lower part it was quite rutted in places, but smaller vehicles (e.g. Clio) also made it through.
after exiting forest, view of peaks above Zapleč and Zaprikraj pastures always enchants me1
