Dve špici, Poldašnja špica

This time I went to the Two Spires and Poldašnja Spica. I started at Planina Zajzera and went past Rudni Vrh on path 648 to the Two Spires. In the upper section there are lots of ruins from World War One, the path goes through a 70m long tunnel, natural window and 150m long man-made carved ledge in the wall of Cime Alte.
I planned to go to Poldašnja Spica on path 649 over Piper, but there's a sign at the start of the path that it's closed. So I descended back to Rudni Vrh instead and went to the summit from there.
Regards, Rok.

Fixed protections over the carved ledge are in pretty bad condition, but at key spots they've been patched up somehow (e.g. torn cable tied with rope to a peg).

Before the announced weather deterioration we simply had to make use of the nice day. We've never been to Dunjska valley before, so one of the peaks above it has been on our "wish list" for a long time. Today we chose Dve špici (Due Pizzi), left Poldašnja špica "reserved" for a family trip with kids.
We decided for ascent via path 605. On the entire path up to sedlo Čalanut (Forchia di Cjanalot) you can observe the "destructive" force of water that found its way to the valley. But it doesn't hinder the approach. Fixed protections on descent to the notch between both summits and on the artificial carved ledge in the south wall of Cima Alta are still in similar condition as described by Rok above (on descent to notch practically none). In our opinion the cables in original length there served more for sense of security than really needed. Well, at one or two spots where welcome they are still solid and ease progress. On the whole path we met no living soul... well not quite - on top two jackdaws joined us, on return we spotted three chamois in distance staging their "dance" on scree nasmeh. Initially planned to descend via path 648 to check it out, but time was pressing so we chose the known path instead which is nice, "open" and scenic. We spent a wonderful day. Path really not difficult, so we warmly recommend it except to those with vertigo!

Dunja Valley is something special. When driving through it you admire the mighty north face of Montaž on the right, on the left lower Naborje Mountains. The scenes accompanying you to the saddle are indescribably magical,
somewhere almost fairy-tale. There are few visitors in this area, solitude lovers and beautiful nature get their money's worth here. At this time a wonderful trip to Poldašnja Spica, as west of the bivouac, at the start of the path to Piparji there are wonderful larches. The whole world around here is unique. I also recommend visiting
Krniška Glavica for the exceptional view of Montaž's north face. Enjoy the joys of this magical part of the western Julian Alps.

The larches don't have their true color yet, I was up there three days ago, otherwise the path to Piparji has been closed for several years. This year's snow avalanches have caused a lot of damage also on path 648 (washed away soil, fallen trees), so it was very difficult to pass before summer, I don't know how it is now.

Today we planned to conquer Cima Alto, in the end we only conquered Cima Vildiver. Although we inquired before the trip from some "know-it-alls", we couldn't get reliable info on path opening/closure, so despite all concerns we set off from Zajzera past the hut (Rifugio Grego).. then along the asphalt road 15 min downhill and at the well-marked junction steeply uphill (path no. 648). The path is quite steep throughout, somewhat undermined by torrents in places, but no major issues. A bit more caution needed when crossing the very crumbly slope under the vertical wall of Piper. Shortly after, path no. 605 joins, we reach the saddle in a few minutes, then also Bivak Bernardinis.
Just below the summit of Cima Vildiver we meet three Austrians who say they couldn't reach Cima Alto due to avalanche, and the path is closed anyway. While looking for the path on the north side of Cima Vildiver we find that the tunnel entrance is still covered with a large amount of snow, so passage is not possible at all. So only the "small" summit remains for us.

Due to somewhat worse weather forecast (afternoon thunderstorms), we started the trip to the Two Spires by driving up Dunja Valley to the start of path no. 648. From there to Bivak Bernardinis the path is in the same condition as described by Parkeljc on 12.5.2011.
A few last warm days melted the snow in front of the tunnel entrance and allowed passage to the north side of Cima Vildiver. When descending to the notch between the two spires, we had to cross a small snowfield. The protections along the ledge are in poor condition in some places (torn cables). When crossing, caution is also needed due to debris on the path. We reached the summit still in nice clear weather, but thunderstorm clouds were gathering over Montaž. Also from this Naborje summit there are very nice views. We returned the same way without special issues. Weather spared us till the end.
We had a great time on the tour, Svicr and Kofetarca.

To the svicr-ja's description I can only add that there is no snowfield anymore, the rest I won't repeat. Path 649 towards Piparji is normally passable, only on the grassy slope somewhere the path is harder to follow, avalanches have done their thing. Further towards Poldašnja špica the path is closed (whole path very cluttered, some cables under the debris, the crossing is dangerous).

Yesterday, 15.6., I was at the Two Spires. Since the last visit in 2007, path 648 is additionally damaged in some places, cables still torn as then. More than that, unstable weather bothered me (on the way back, it even rained lightly for a short time), to explore the path to Piparji, where I haven't been, to Poldašnja Spica. Let it stay for the near future. Nice to return to these places.

The journey from Dunja to Kanalska Dolina could be named today's PD Medvode tour. The first, adrenaline part was already the morning bus ride through Dunja Valley, especially with a seat on the outer sideeek. We started about 1.5 km below Rudni Vrh pass, above the Plan dei Spadovai flattening (about 10 hairpins) on path no. 648. Then past the junction for Pipar (no sign of impassability) along crumbly ledges to the Čanalut saddle. First past Bivak Bernardis to Cima Vildiver, from there after a short descent through the tunnel along the ledge carved in the south wall of Cime Alte. Here is also the only more tricky spot on the path, right before the natural window and behind it for some m. Missing protections, everything quite narrow and littered with debris. As PD we of course did securing, it went easiernasmeh. Further the path along the ledge is no longer problematic, as the ledge is wide enough. Then we climbed to the summit of Cime Alte, which offers exceptional views all around, especially to Montaž, and also Karnice. The three-hour descent we did on the path that first goes to the pasture in Duplje (Granuda), then down to Lužnice, where the bus was waiting. Nice day, new experiences in somewhat wilder places. Nice experience for all somewhat experienced.

In picture 17 there is a poorer view towards Viš, because it is covered by the large Nabojs. Unfortunately Viš cannot be seen.

@Okmodko, oh yes Viš is visible, of course not fully, but the summit slopes.

I wasn't on Two Spires, nor on Poldašnja, only on Pipar. Starting point Plan dai Spadovai, then to Pipar summit and on to bivouac "Gemona" then down unmarked path towards Rudni vrh. No snow, path 649 is still closed, but maybe soon open againzavijanje z očmi

Shall we, shan't we … shall we, shan't we ... for several consecutive weekends all possible wet forecasts have been postponing longer goals for us, but this time we go where we've been heading for a long time, to part of connecting path 649. Italian locals predicted solid weather right over us and they were right velik nasmeh. Some forum members in our immediate vicinity had different experiences that same day.

Path of Gemona battalion, or path 649 crosses Naborje mountains for almost 12 km. For the WWI anniversary they newly equipped most of it with protections and rerouted at places of permanent rockfalls a bit differently than years ago. We this time traversed the part from Poldašnja Spire (Jof di Miezegnot) to Two Spires (Due Pizzi) and a bit further. The mentioned traverse is currently (July 2018) passable without problems, of course with regard to the path's nature. It is primarily pristine, panoramic, exposed, secured everywhere needed and nowhere where it is not. Path for connoisseurs nasmeh
