Erbelc (1308 m) and Tonderškofel (1326 m)

On Friday I climbed from Zgornja Sorica to Erbelc and Tonderškofel. I planned to extend the trip all the way to Ratitovec, but due to frequent showers and thunderstorms I decided to return to the starting point.
From Erbelc (partly also from Tonderškofel) there is a nice view of the surrounding hills, which I personally wasn't able to enjoy due to fog. On the return the weather improved so much that I could see what the peaks look like from Sorica.
A more detailed description will follow in the next few days in the "new trips" section.
Best, Tadej

Nice photos and nice trip.
From the pictures I see that you were also in Sp. Danje.
Shame about the view, from Erbelc there is really a nice view not only on the surrounding hills but also to Sorica... (from another perspective).

On Sunday I included Erbelc in a nice circular tour starting and ending in Spodnje Danje.
I ascended from Sp. Danje across meadows and through the forest via a direct pathless variant uphill, only in the last part I joined the one from Rotek. I continued to Dajnarska planina and along the marked path via Kremant and Altemaver to the hut on Ratitovec. Then descent to Torka and along the foothill road through Zabrdo and Zg. Danje back to the start.
I did the tour as a good substitute for participating in the Ljubljana marathon, which I was registered for, but hills in the sun are just more to my liking than Ljubljana fog... more:

It's really a shame there was no view, but I plan to climb the peak also from the direction of Soriška planina. I hope there will be more view then.
True, I was also in Spodnje Danje.

Yesterday, after almost a year, again on Tonderškofel and Erbelc, this time from the direction of Soriška planina.
The views were better than last year.
Best, Tadej

The starting point of Sunday's 10 km tour was again in Spodnje Danje. Through Poden I climbed towards Danjarska planina, but then decided for pathless terrain more to the right, which after a steep ascent brought me to the mountain path Soriška planina - Ratitovec. I continued left towards Soriška planina and after 500 m reached the gravel road, on which I could have gone right to Soriška planina or to the hunting hut, but the "across" variant prevailed, again pathless.
From Soriška planina I returned through the front and back molže (again pathless, itaq), then to Erbelc, descent towards Rotek... but only at the beginning, the next decision soon redirected me left (pathless), direct descent to the starting point in Sp. Danje.

Today we discovered two new peaks of our municipality, which are definitely worth a visit. From Rotke we followed the route description on hribi.net along the road and in one hour we were already at the top of Erbelc, which is an excellent viewpoint! We also found the neighboring peak Tonderškofel and descended the same way.

Solitude, forests, song of birds, somewhere below the top a wonderful "plantation" of blooming crocuses, and on the path some snow a few times. Met only one hiker.

Apparently you can reach Erbelc also via a steep ridge path directly from Rotke, but we'll explore that another time.

All the best!

You look at this ridge when you arrive in Sorica and it accompanies you all the way when you climb further towards Soriška planina. Well, you don't see it only in one part, say at two bends. But again and again I marvel at its beauty and steepness, even more at the names of its peaks, which one can hardly remember.

And when you admire it like this, sooner or later you wish to get closer and check the steepness that opens up on their summits or edges. On Saturday we decided for this, something lighter for walking, we said. The path is short, but definitely worth a visit, either standalone or on the way when heading further to Ratitovec or the peaks above Soriška planina.

Erbelc is an exceptional viewpoint altogether, with a birch tree on top that has just nicely greened, and a bench to make admiring easier. There's even a summit log up there. So it has regular visitors. Definitely an interesting visit!

Really interesting names. Here's an explanation why (wikipedia):
...Greater settlement of the area occurred between 1218 and 1251, when Patriarch Bertold Andeški of Aquileia settled farmers from the area around Innichen in the Puster Valley (Pustertal) in southern Tyrol. The first settlers settled in the area of today's Grant and Ruta, then slowly spread. They had their own autonomy, a judge, and were exempt from all taxes. The result of this settlement are place names, surnames and dialect, all preserved to this day. The old Tyrolean German was preserved in some places until the 19th century. Thirteen villages of the former German settlement formed a special Baška dialect with some peculiarities.

When we climb to Erbelc via the direct steep path from Rotka, I'll describe the path here, right? A nice loop can be made via the already described path on hribi.net back to the starting point at Rotka.

Before that we still need to ask some local to direct us properly ...

A promise is a promise. Last weekend we explored the direct path to Erbelc from Rotka. We made it! velik nasmeh

Description: P at Rotka (that's the intersection of the road above Sorica towards Soriska planina and the road towards Zg. and Sp. Danje), space for a couple of cars.
From the road you immediately notice the power line and the forest road (track) that climbs towards the power line. Watch for all right turnoffs!
Right at the start is the first turnoff. Continue straight under the power line, a bit later the second turnoff, further on across the water the THIRD turnoff right. That's where we turned, cross the stream and follow this track for a while.

Be careful where from the forest below right a steep path leads up to the track! It continues steeply upwards on the other side - just follow it, soon cairns appear too. The path crosses tracks a few times. Soon it reaches the ridge, where a small path branches right to a nearby viewpoint. Continue on the path and soon you emerge from the forest right below the summit of Erbelc. Steeply up to the top!

The ascent takes about 45 minutes. We did some exploring so it took us longer. Obviously the mentioned path starts somewhere on the track at the second right turnoff, but we didn't notice it because we weren't expecting it at all. But we stumbled upon it by chance at the described spot at the third turnoff. mežikanje

You can easily loop the path via the gentle path from the summit down to the forest road, right, some way along the road, at the intersection (roadside stake) then right downhill to the road to Zg. Danje. It's described here on hribi.net.

Given that we didn't have a detailed description, I think there won't be problems finding this right path to Erbelc. Even though it was the weekend, we were alone the whole way. Good luck!
