European long-distance path E6 YU (Snežnik-Croatian border-Klana-Breza-Kastav (Rijeka)
GPX track: Snežnik-Kastav (Rijeka) - use at your own risk
This path was untraveled for a long time because it was the state border between Slovenia and Croatia. Now that Croatia has joined Schengen, we can cross the border legally without visiting border control. I remember that there was quite positive talk about this part of the E6 path and some were impatiently waiting for the border to be gone. However, I haven't read any report from hikers about this part of the path yet. Tone Lesnik, elder of European footpaths, promised me to check on an old map how the path went. However, it is terrain overgrown with forests and requires 1,500 m descent. I assume it follows forestry and gravel roads. Maybe I'm wrong. Along the path there are only 2 villages: Klano and Brezo. Kastav is quite a large settlement above Rijeka. As I saw in pictures, the sea is already visible in Kastav.
I found on the Internet a GPX track: Veliki Snežnik-Snježnik (direction Delnice) (http://bitly.ws/SLed), which goes on the same route as E6 YU. Both go all the way to the Croatian border.
