On 17.11.2013 hike of 40 hikers: Kočevje-Livoldski vrh-Fridrihštajn-Mestni vrh-hut at Jelenov studenec-Kočevje. Walking 4.30 hours and 840 m ascent. For right climbing on Fridrihštajn no belay needed.

Does anyone know how it is with this path after the ice storm? Is it passable? And of course also easier descent?

Last weekend drive to Kočevje and Podgorska road to start. From there towards Fridrihštajn. Path crosses road several times, steeper in places. At junction right after last crossing, turn left then next straight and see it! Castle! Where's climbing path? zmeden

Missed branch? zmeden

No. Turn right see sign Fridrihštajn wall!

Under it fiddle a bit then gear on and go! At chain first check cable ahead to crag and other side wall. Back climb pegs. First pegs without cable then stuck. Rock peg setup you almost grab cable. Harder than looks from below. Say B/C. Above pegs right traverse final pitch (both A/B).

Top sign book then wander paths around castle before back to start climbing branch. From there to Livodski vrh. From rock gentle descent forest to forest road cross then path ascends again. Interesting path partly rocks. Below summit splits two. Take past viewpoint (two bolts to it) nice Kočevje view. Viewpoint to top 1-2 min. Down planned other split path but out elsewhere higher road walk 5-10 min to Fridrihštajn branch.

Then Mestni vrh. Below summit broken trees (no issue). Summit no view quick to hut Jelenov studenec. Path steep though well marked (all well signposted) bit lost improv end. Below summit fallen trees avoid no big deal (8.3.2014). That all fallen trees on path.

Hut sausage beer then per hutkeeper Kalanova path to start. Drive Rudniško jezero stroll Kočevje beer even ice cream mežikanje

home.

Today on the secured climbing path to Fridrihštajn (today the wall was wet and very slippery). For the vertical path it's good to have a self-belay kit, for the right path it's not needed. Then further to the hut at Jelenov studenec. Nice regards

Today a nice circular tour (Kočevje-Mestni vrh-hut at Jelenov studenec-Fridrihštajn-Kočevje). Path without special features, only Fridrihštajn wall was wet and extra caution is needed. Nice regards

A bit below the summit of Fridrihštajn the sun awaited me and from the top there was a nice view of the foggy Kočevje landscape, from there continued to hut at Jelenov studenec. Fridrihštajn wall is icy in one section and extra caution is needed. Nice regards
