I'm interested in snow conditions and avalanche danger on paths from Vrata through Luknja via Korita to Zadnjica and over Komna via Bogatinska vrata and the hut at Krn or if anyone knows some nice winter tour on the Gorenjska Bovec route...thanks for advice

I definitely recommend starting in Bohinj. From Komna besides the one mentioned above there's also a path over Oslova škrbina and descent to planina za Skalo. Then steep descent to Vrsnik. This part can be dangerous for slipping with lots of snow and also avalanche risk. Currently high avalanche danger in Julian Alps.

a few years ago I walked the path between planina za skalo and vrsnik early May when there was still lots of snow. unfortunately I know the continuation between planina za skalo and komna only in summer conditions. definitely extremely nice path but in winter orientation demanding because it's more solitary and can't rely on it being trodden. another nice path is from triglav lakes over velika vrata to vrsnik. at velika vrata it's karst, lots of scree which can be tricky. lps

How about snow on Komna? Enough for ski touring? Regards, Martina

From Komna onwards there's enough, just need to wait for it to settle a bit. And tomorrow some more will fall so winter is coming.

Similar path I did last summer. Started at Pokljuka went to top of Triglav and overnight at Dolič. Day 2 to Hribarice and over ridge Zelnarica and Tičarica to hut at Triglav lakes. Day 3 over Lopučnica and planina za Skalo to Soča valley. Around planina za Skalo tons of snakes, I saw four. Cheers, Sandi

now I remembered another interesting path between Gorenjska and Posočje (sadly no winter experience with it either). Over Hribarice to Prehodavci, from there descent to Trebiški dol past hunters hut, then along Trebiščnica past planina Lepoč into heart of Trenta (na Logu). But from Lepoč to Trenta it drags on a bit. lp,s

First that one from Vrata through Luknja through Korita to Trenta. In these conditions pure utopia, lack of knowledge and more. Who would trudge 12 km from Mojstrana to Vrata, then climb Luknja, if already down at the stream avalanches from under Triglav or from the other side from Sovatna don't bury him. From Luknja through Korita I already skied, but in completely different conditions. Anyway it's one of the most dangerous areas for avalanches from under Plemenice and Pihavec, in short impassable. Really strange question. Would add to the last reply, Hribarice - Prehodavci passage is of course massively visited in winter, but again not in these conditions. To get from Prehodavci to Trebiški dol in winter you need a lot of knowledge. In short impossible for a novice. Need to know winter passages, of course do tours when no avalanche danger. Even the path itself from Trebiški dol to Trenta can be very threatened by avalanches and impassable. Very very strange hints.

Thanks for advice, of course in such conditions it doesn't even cross my mind to go anywhere, just those paths I described I walked this summer and was just interested how passages are in winter, that about Luknja and avalanches the last visitor confirmed my assumptions...will have to wait for safer days, I conclude the safest path later to Komna over Vratca to Hut at Krn Lakes?

To the solid and well-considered contribution of triglavski practically nothing to add. Seems to me very right that it was written, regardless of current conditions that will keep most (even the most experienced) anyway in valleys or a bit above them. On the topic of moving in mountains in winter conditions you can read a lot, written on paper and/or published electronically. Below I copied two links whose content I reread these days ... Didn't 'paste' them because they offer answers to all questions about 'winter' mountains, but because they are in my opinion a good introduction to finding such answers. Among other things there you get a list of some known winter destinations, roughly sorted by difficulty ... But, from ideas gained there to execution, or especially to practical knowledge needed for safe execution of such tours, is a long way! http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/22134/ http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/78/ Best P.s. Also over the (summer) path from hut on Komna to Vratca (Bogatinsko sedlo) real avalanches can come from direction of Srednji vrh and Vrh nad Gracijo!
