From Šentvid to Škofja Loka

14 of us gathered, two leaders who took care of the idea and realization of the hike. We started in Šentvid, went above Bormez to Toško čelo and further to Dobrnikar on Katarina, where we had a short stop. Saturday was great, ideal and a joy for leaders and hikers, temperature super for walking, no wind, sunny, great views. Ascent to Grmada, this time our highest peak, then to Gonte, towards Gontarska planina and to the cabin on Osovnik, where we had lunch. Then to Osovnik peak, where the sign on the tree shows we're already 3 hours from Grmada and have 2 hours to Škofja Loka. The path was dry, fairly well marked, on some shady and steep parts more caution needed, especially in the last descent to Puštal. We were all happy we managed 28 km well, if we got the right info, 1,200 m ascent. We rated it right, 9 hours with stops total. In Škofja Loka also Zimska vas, worth seeing, possible until end of January. And coffee at Zamorca hit the spot. At the end we were already planning a new tour for peaks not planned this time...

Nine hours of hiking in January is already a real feat! Congratulations to all.

Tomorrow I plan something similar, namely starting at lpp station Šentvid. Not quite clear to me how the path from that station to Bormez is - is the path marked? Does it go through forest or do you need some asphalt?

If you pick it up correctly at the beginning, there are markings.

The path from Šentvid leading to Bormez first goes through Gunclje to the village Dvor; there the trail starts. To there on asphalt.
Nicer is the one that goes right into the forest in Šentvid, but doesn't go past Bormez, instead direct to Toško čelo. Very pleasant path. I parked behind the Nox hotel, not sure if allowed. It was during corona time, and it was empty. From Toško čelo to Katarina is 5 km gravel.
From Bormez to Slavkov dom a bit of asphalt, then forest path, before Katarina again a bit of road.
Of course you can make a loop trail - up one and down the other.

Thanks to both. That gravel doesn't appeal most to me, but probably more logical to start right from village Dvor... will see what the feeling is tomorrow morning. nasmeh

Start at intersection Celovška and Cesta v hrib, go right on asphalt road around the hut. At first gravel junction go right - markings direction Toško čelo. From Toško čelo go to Katarina and further...

Probably already a bit late. You can reach Bormez also from Šentvid. At the top of the first climb past the hut at the cross sign, there is a junction of 3 paths. Left leads to Toško čelo, middle and right later merge and lead above the top of the ski slope "Poseka" all towards Bormez and further to the top of Medanski hrib, above the Medno hotel.

Orientation is quite tricky. There are lots of meadows and paths, but roughly from Poseka onwards you need to keep right along the ridge (some marks on trees), when the path crosses the gravel section, it turns left towards Bormez... For me this is by far the nicest path to Katarina.

For LPP I recommend going one more stop to Lidl. Then the path will lead you on asphalt and gravel past the golf course to the village Dvor. There are red signs and markings, so you'll hardly miss it. After about 20 min of walking, the path branches left... or continue to the Stanežiče fire station and then go left uphill on gravel (which crosses the ridge path from Šentvid).

Count on about 20-25 km and 1500 m, depending on which hills you go to. You can refill water for free behind the cemetery at Katarina, or left of the Dobnikar inn, before the bocce court. They usually open by that time, since it's no longer below zero..

Good luck and I hope for the nicest possible trip.
