On Salewa gaiters (don't know the model) the steel wire on the strap that goes under the boot tore, and therefore the gaiter creeps up in deep snow. Since the gaiters are otherwise still in good enough condition, it seems pointless to spend 40 or more euros on new gaiters just because of one poor strap. Does anyone repair this or is there a spare part available (say just replace the strap)?

You can easily fix such a thing yourself. Take a needle, thread and replace the metal wire with a slightly more durable strap and sew it nicely. On the other end make holes for the buckle and that's it.
