Garmin Forerunner 405CX sports watch... a waste of money...

This is my personal opinion about the Garmin Forerunner 405 CX watch, many will praise this sports watch, others won't. These days I had the Garmin 405 CX watch on test, it's supposedly the best sports watch, I paid less for it than they sell in stores, where it costs 399 euros retail. It has about 30 displays among them the most interesting at least for me (altitude, distance, calories, incline, direction, GPS accuracy, heart rate, stopwatch, time etc). It also has a compass, we save walked/run/cycled paths and, if we want to go by the track, just turn on this compass, which leads us to the goal. GPS reception is excellent in the forest, only the incline gets lost under spruces, elevation is very accurate, I was on three hills and the elevation was +/- 2 m difference, GPS reception is 99% accurate, ...
The big drawback of this watch is the battery, for me personally it lasted during the run and browsing the watch only about 5 hours, autonomy is 8 hours, I can't imagine what it would be in 2 years when the battery is worn out. For this money the watch could have much more data, navigation. Here you really see that we overpay Garmin 80%, the other 20% is worth the watch itself, there isn't even a quality case, because the ring wears quickly when we move on it.
I then sold the watch for a couple of euros less.

My rating from 1-5 is only 2, it could be better.

Mountain lover, I agree with you on everything. Unlike the older 405 version, the CX version is supposed to have completely new software and different calorie burn calculation, for which they raised the price by a solid 100 euros!?! Come on! Then they release model 110, supposed to be a more civilized version of 405. Got that for test too, identical battery status and consumption. Strap barely survives over a year of regular use... change only at distributor... nice gadget but like 405, you feel ripped off... as if paid much more than actually got.

HR and CX
CX has only better kcal calc, measures it via heart rate, the watch is blue, besides purchase you get two extra straps, no other differences.
All data could be 100% if the watch is worth 400 eur.
When you buy a phone for 150 eur you can do lots with it (load navigation, make calls, play games although I don't play them, browse the web for FREE via WLAN only at certain spots, take photos, record videos, write SMS, has compass) etc.
With the watch you get some bogus data, not much to do with them.
Was on a hill, it showed 960m, transferred data wirelessly to web and there it showed 955 m... why if the watch showed 960m.
Speed, even standing still, charges 1-2-3-4km/h, well GPS, so price higher, but whyzmeden

My tests confirm Mountain lover's statement: Nokia phone + Bluetooth Wearlink is the optimal solution.

I use a slightly older Nokia model (E71), but in combination with Sport tracker I won't trade it for any watch. The combination is a bit weak on calorie calculation, but it collects so much data that you need the same time to review them as for the activity itself. nasmeh

In addition, GPS precision is much more accurate, in case of poor GPS signal coverage you can help yourself with server-assisted system (UMTS/GPRS).

I put that for comparison, what you can get for 150 eur, but you don't even need a phone... the ordinary one for 20-40 eur is enough.

What we really need is this portal, descriptions-photos are unique.

There's already Garmin 610 outside, and she told me that the last model will be 410, for some time.

Here it is:

If anyone's curiosity is bothering them, they can go see it live at Garmin service, sales, say Kranj.

I'm completely satisfied with the 310, especially because the battery lasts much longer than other Garmins, at least 16 hours. With the previous model 405 which I have almost 3 years, battery lasts still about 5 hours (at start 8). All this of course with satellites on.

Don't want to open new topic. Tempted a bit to get a GPS device, and for a long time looking at two Garmin devices. Namely Dakota 20 and GPSMAP 62. Does anyone have them and what are your opinions or experiences with them?

I'm also satisfied with 310 and verified it holds over 16h.
