Goli vrh (962) and Rupnik Line

Trip to the unknown PD Medvode is now of course known. Today was a day for history, hiking was just an accompanying activity. Every time I realize anew how little we know our homeland: just a stone's throw from our home is a hilly area that hides opportunities and possibilities for all kinds of outings, and we don't even know about it. I probably opened this topic anew for that reason, hope I didn't miss anything. The bus drops us off at Suho dol, we get there by the road that branches off from the main Horjul-Gorenja vas road. Already there a bunch of signs offer various options. We choose Goli vrh, then about an hour and a half through meadows, forest paths and tracks. Then we meet the first markings of the Rupnik Line, where the guide joins us. We first look at the bunker that is renovated and equipped for visits, then the guide takes us to two more hidden bunkers in the forest. We descend to the other side and stop in front of the portal of the renovated underground fortress, which is part of the Rupnik Line. Underground it measures 200 m in length, widens branches of corridors 50 m wide, at the end there are 25-meter-high shafts, exits to the ugly bunkers we saw above. Two weeks ago this "monument" was opened, information available at Razvojna agencija Sora, TIC Škofjeloško območje. One more fact that stuck in my memory. The Rupnik Line was built by 60,000 people in its best times! They built it just before the start of WWII and stopped in 1941. Never really used, failed investment, right? Well, after this hour or two of history we continue for about an hour to tasting at the farmer who produces dried fruit and brews various schnapps (no advertising), then to Lovski dom on Žirovski vrh, where they serve us excellent game goulash and dumplings that measure sinfully large in length and height, and they are good too. In between we also meet the "path through Zalo". Another thematic path that takes you from farm to farm, with various offers, tied to Tavčar. They will know more about this at the above address. So, if you want wandering just like that, trip to unknown or known, for many people or alone: the idea is before you. Believe me, it's worth it. The weather was foggy and sour today, but no one was too unhappy because of it, as we filled the day with other things. Bravo us and our guides who sniff out such things.nasmehnasmeh

In PD Škofja Loka we have already done the trip to the unknown in all sections. We always have one tour still on unknown paths. This time with the Monday retirees section we somehow repeated this trip. First you have to get to the guide's farm of the Rupnik Line, where they kindly serve us schnapps. Here the fourth generation lives already. On the guide's farm territory there are five bunkers of the Rupnik Line. One they rearranged into a museum on the hill above the farm, which the guide also unlocks and shows us. Here the crew was supposed to count up to six men. In the bunker itself there were even bunk beds. You climbed a ladder into the bunker dome. Such bunkers of various sizes there should be two thousand along the entire Rupnik Line, as seen from the sketch on the panel and twelve forts. After occupation in 1941 the Italians destroyed all these military objects on their part. Germans just blocked access to them and we can still admire them today. Unfortunately the war overtook the construction of this defensive line and the defensive line was never completed nor used. Between objects they were supposed to install wire and various obstacles for infantry and tanks. But even that wouldn't stop the mighty power of the occupiers. They planned that construction would finish only in 1947, by then the war was already two years past. Three military forts survived the war and the magnificent military fort on Golem vrh they rearranged into a museum in 2011. First we walk to the hill itself to see two magnificent bunkers. To the bunkers you got from this fort. Also from bunkers you got inside. Then we descended the gentle slope to see the fort. To the very heart of the fort you get through a quite long tunnel. Then you come to several halls and galleries. In one of the halls exhibits from construction times are displayed. The museum part of tunnels and halls is lit. Steps lead to the bunkers - I don't know if you can enter them. We continued past the tourist farm still to Javorč to Lovski dom and along the Path through Zalo to the bus.
