Grančišče above Mojstrana

The morning view towards Luknja indicated it would be a nice day. Immediately we decided to head with the kids to Grančišče above Mojstrana, where we hadn't been yet. We walked to the starting point since it was only a few minutes away. The starting point is the same as for the ascent to Vrtaška planina or further to Sleme and other mountains above Mojstrana. The path ascends gradually, soon reaching a junction since there's a circular path to Grančišče. The path is easy, runs through forest, at the top we are rewarded with nice views of part of Karavanke, Jerebikovec, Dovje and Mojstrana. The path takes half an hour of slow walking with kids. The opening of the via ferrata will be at the end of May. Until then, there will be occasional work on the via ferrata, there are no info boards yet, and the descent is not well marked either. Best to wait until the opening, then there will be plenty of info on everything. Mitja Šorn

From the museum go along the road towards Vrata, after 100m on the right see gravel road leading under Grančišče wall. Again after good 100m see gap between two safety fences and from road spot info board on our left. Path takes us in five minutes walk to start of cables. Both via ferratas built French style. Means cable not tensioned, so pulling on it somewhat harder. But safer in fall, stop softer in loop than direct on bolt. Both vias use natural passages through wall well, so sportier ones can climb without using cable for progress (if cable only for protection I'd rate hard via around IV grade with one harder spot). Ladder and pegs must use even free climbing. Aljaževa path is easier via. Marked blue on terrain and board. Difficulty between A and B, exposure high, Grančišče wall quite steep. Mostly walk on dug path, here and there few pegs help. Since this winter not generous with precip, some piled stones, so caution walking not extra. Harder path we named Path of Mojstrana squirrels. Marked red on terrain and board. Difficulty C, some spots could be D. Main feature finds natural passages over steep wall sections, climbing like real climbing. This path still muddy in places, but with bigger rain much better. Advantage of two paths: each adjust difficulty themselves. Paths cross four times, switch difficulty multiple times. Height difference ca 180m, length around 250m. Climbing takes about hour. Descent marked over scenic Grančišče summit. Forest path to Mojstrana about 20 min. Vias for ascent, don't descend them. Even if easier via seems ideal for descent think of people who chose it as goal that day and meet you. Use existing parking in Mojstrana. Lots of enjoyment climbing new vias.
