Hi! Not long ago I bought winter boots Scarpa Triolet GTX (for more beginner winter ascents), which have impressed me so far, but I have a problem that after a few hours of walking the heel starts to lift. Otherwise the boots fit nicely, don't pinch, aren't loose, even during more than half-hour test in the store with salesman's comments they performed well. They hold the foot well from all sides, only the heel is the problem, because after several-hour winter ascent it can later lift by feel approx. 2 cm. Stability is still good, but that's not it. I bought new (thicker, hiking with gel) insoles but nothing helped. Returning the model to the store is also impossible. Now I'm wondering if you have any suggestion how to limit this? I already have thick hiking socks. Should I wear doubles? Maybe someone knows where in Slovenia they make custom inner insoles? Thanks in advance for answers

Let me warn you that the Scarpa Triolet is not a winter boot. It is just a bit more leathery than summer boots, thus three-season. In winter this boot is not warm enough, so I do not recommend it for longer winter tours. Even real alpinists on the blog said that they do not warm enough for some bigger minus, for winter at all no!. I have the same boot and it surprises me that the heel lifts, because especially this boot has a quite well-shaped heel. For me this boot holds the foot too much. For advice go to Roku at Annapurna-way, Lj., who knows this type of boot and sold it for many years.

Yeah, I've heard it's not a real winter boot, I have it more for first ascents like Stol, Grintovec, Viševnik, easier couloirs... when there are no harsh minuses Yeah, it seems to me it should hold the heel but it simply doesn't, never had issues with this in other boots. I'll go, a thousand thanks for the advice!!

Combine with good wool socks in winter. Liner socks, as well as Bridgendale socks perform excellently.

Isn't Smartwool just regular merino wool plus a bit of polyamide like most good socks have? correction please if I'm wrong

Merino wool for sure, lots of merino wool. Additives like polyamide or similar probably too. And I admit, they stretch a bit, become loose, which hasn't happened to me with other makers. But they are so cool that I wouldn't trade them for anything else Almost five years old, washing several times a month and except that looseness no wear visible. But they are a winter model, quite thick and so I neither wear nor need liners. I also have some Smartwool for ski touring and I'm likewise super satisfied (that's how it's said, right )
