Hochfeiler

We did the tour to the king of the Zillertal Alps on Sunday in wonderful weather from the place Stein. The tour itself is not technically demanding but is quite strenuous due to the peak's height (3510m). All the effort and the long drive (300km from Vrtojba) were rewarded already during the ascent and even more at the top with boundless views. The Hochfeilerhütte and the order in it are completely fine. One more thing; water on the path to the hut is more than enough.

We start the tour at the artificial lake Neves in the head of Mühlwald valley at height 1857 meters. Along a winding path we ascend to Edelraut hut at 2545 m. We continue towards Hochfeiler hut via Weisszin col at 2974 m. Follows descent deep to the glacier and on the other side up again to Hochfeiler hut, 2715 meters high. Next day we go by the normal route, over the western ridge, to the summit. The path is completely dry (right side of the ridge). We descend the same path. Last 200 meters somewhat exposed, otherwise doable for any mountaineer with enough fitness.
On descent we met crowds of people who would better fit e.g. on Velika Planina than on this peak (by clothing, footwear and equipment they didn't have).

Janez, the same happened to us on even higher Monte Vioz; only we four had ice axes. Some Italian even asked if we do "traversata" - that's nice but demanding traverse to Cevedale summit. We had the impression that this year everything that crawls and walks climbed into the mountains, and such dry high summits really force underestimation of our "little hills".
Consequences can be felt on Grzszavijanje z očmi
