Sunday trip to ''Three Kings'' starting from Vel. Tinje took place in super weather, which was perfect for observing and exploring the forest on the way to the top. The path through the forest covered with approx 2-3cm snow, caution still necessary as yesterday's snow covered old ice in some sections-so be careful. Ski slope operating normally- snow somewhere between 20 and 30cm (artificial) no crowds, mostly our J neighbors, as they have holidays.

Today (13.12.2012.) quick ascent to Three Kings. Start at the church in Veliki Tinje, trail then through spruce forest, over meadows with wonderful southwest view, past some farms and crosses asphalt road several times. The most demanding and most interesting part of the trail is from Planina village to the hut where the trail goes through rocky gully.
It was quite icy, around minus ten and also extremely strong southeast wind in places.

Exceptionally warm ascent to Hotel Jakec... Start in Veliki Tinje, through forest, meadows, past Rep farm, forest again, Planina village, rocky gully and then to Jakec. We do this trail every year, but I myself first time reached the main Veliki Vrh which is above the little church and hotel... Back same way, with me was friend Krešo.

I know this trail very well... But anyone going first time would surely mess up because the trail is really criminally poorly marked. In Tinje there's only one mark on the poles by the church, then no marks until forest entrance.
Between chapel and Rep farm now no more forest, with which marks disappeared too.
When going further from Rep the trail brings us to where it touches the road. Until then marks are so-so, here again mess where marks completely disappear (keep to right edge of meadow).
In Planina the only really visible sign is completely illogical because arrow points back towards Slovenska Bistrica. Actually need to go west and then into forest (faded arrow). From here on marks are good...

Today the trail led me through Bistriški Vintgar to Hotel Jakec. I expected a muddier trail, but despite abundant rain, the trail is only muddy in places. Along the way a fallen log scared me, luckily beyond the stream. Remains of storms and glaze ice are still present, so caution. After 3 hours I finally arrived at the hotel.

Continued the trail to "Jesen" hospital, to Areh and to Bellevue. Total tough 28 km and 8 h normal walking.

We started the trail in Zg. Bistrica and through Bistriški Vintgar, which is a picturesque valley created by Bistrica stream. Its flow is very playful in some parts, quite calm in others. Natural environment is wonderful, along the trail we can see quite some sights: Roman quarry, Bistriški Šum waterfall, ruins of numerous mills, thickest fir in this part of Europe (which unfortunately fell and is slowly decaying). Trail is easy, only part by Šum waterfall is exposed and requires considerable caution. We continued to Three Kings and further to Veliki Vrh 1344m, returned back to Hotel Jakec and descended to Tinje and Zg. Bistrica. Did good 20 km and 1200m elevation.

The hiked trail is normally passable, higher up some snow, but no special problems.
