On Saturday I climbed from the Železniki sports hall to Hujska. The path to the summit is not marked, but it's easy to follow as it's well-trodden, and in the lower part it runs along part of the Kres forest educational trail. Best, Tadej

Where did you find Hujska Our little house hill It's quite nice for a short walk, accessible from all sides, and also crisscrossed with paths. But they all lead to the top, where you can sign the book in the box. I visit it quite often, especially in the cooler part of the year.

When I was returning from Ratitovec, I said to myself I'll go check this forest educational path Kres too. Since the path continued towards Hujska, I climbed to the top as well. I'm interested if continuing from the top towards Jelovica, or via Novak hill (or somewhere else) I reach the marked path from Raztovka to Ratitovec? Wondering if it's passable or some trodden path. Thanks.

Yes. There are several variants to reach the marked path to Ratitovec. Easiest is the path Rudno (Rudno gully) - Novak - Prtovč - Ratitovec. You can join this path at several places. More precisely Vencelj can explain, as he uses these paths for his running training and knows them a bit better. It's also part of the Ultra pušeljc trail route.

Of course from Hujska you can continue towards Jelovica. As Gregor already wrote, right after Novak you reach the marked LPP which takes you to Prtovč. This is somewhat harder to pass in one section (a few hundred meters overgrown with ferns and blackberries at this time), plus in one part there's almost no path and you have to watch the marks closely. Because of this section we chose another variant when tracing the UPT: crossing LPP behind Novak, ascent to Novakov hrib, soon back to forest road, which after a couple hundred meters (road turns slightly right) we leave left on logging trail steeply uphill. The climb soon flattens, there the logging trail forks. Here UPT route goes left, a bit higher reaches road and continues towards Prtovč... For ascent to Ledine at fork go right. When reaching forest road, just cross it and continue ascent on logging trail to Pašni vrh and soon on path from Raztovka to Ratitovec. It's a bit hard to describe paths where there are lots of logging trails and poor (or no) markings. Sometimes use feeling or devices. Got a map that might help to know what we're talking about: http://www.geopedia.si/?params=L1464_F14_T1751_vF_b4_x433839_y123273.5_s14#T1751_F1464:14_x433839_y123273.5_s14_b4

Interesting: on Google I saw Dražgoše - Pašni vrh - pešpoti result. Given Dražgoše location, I was curious about the chosen variant, and damn, it's marked LPP from Dražgoše past Novak to Prtovč, then on forest road to Jesenovec and from there to Pašni vrh. Completely roundabout. http://www.pespoti.si/izlet.php?id=19601

And another interesting fact: On June 13, 2004, the Race to Hujska took place in Železniki. The race was circular over Kres and over the Hujska summit, start and finish in the Na Kresu settlement. It is an uphill-downhill running discipline; the race counted for the Slovenian Cup in mountain running and was a qualifier for the European Championship in this discipline. http://www.gorski-teki.si/sezona04/pokal/hujsko.htm Wow, has it really been that long... feels like just now.

Today I did a loop above Hujska: Na Kresu - Hujska - Novak - along the marked path - Podlonk - via shortcut - Dašnica - Na Kresu. To Novak and further for the first time, followed a nicely marked forest path up-down, over streams, really interesting, varied and solitary path, currently also nicely passable without issues. Just follow the marks. Approximate time: 1h to Novak, 1h to Podlonk, 1h descent. The above-mentioned variant of this path that then goes to Prtovč and further to Ratitovec, but I took it this time via Podlonk and shortcut (not road) down to Dašnica and home. All of course within own municipality!
