On the PZS pages it says it's still open. A phone number is posted there: 051/632-738; it's smart to check. Hope the link below works in this form: http://www.pzs.si/index.php?stran=Seznam huts&koca_id=30 Regards

:-) the link works, of course, but the phone has been unreachable for a couple of days, so I'm asking if anyone knows firsthand whether it's possible to sleep there this weekend until Monday..

Hut was open until Wednesday 1.10.2008 and they really made an effort till the end. It was excellent that last weekend in September and start of the week was just like that. For overnight stay now only winter room remains ...

Yesterday, after a good two hours' transition from already spring-like conditions in the valley to real winter... from the parking area above Stara Fužina the path goes along the road for about 10 min, then turns left into the forest and after less than half an hour you reach a wonderful viewpoint, then a bit more and you are at Kosijev dom on Vogar, but that was not our goal. The path continues winding through the forest and intertwining with the road. A bit above the "junction" where the path from planina Blato also joins, snow started, which only increased. When you reach Koča na Planini pri Jezeru... fairy tale. At least 2m of snow, OK to walk on, does not sink much, lake a bit frozen, weather wonderful despite occasional cloudiness, super. On the way back the sun was shining, a bit of light snow, but the lower you go, the hotter it got. The trip was concluded with a walk around Bohinj Lake, it was really a wonderful day.

In the morning I head to Vogar, the path is firm and dry with lots of blooming heather along it. I step to the viewpoint edge and on to Kosijev dom. Light snow started, I decide to go a bit further. Snow starts on the road, I turn to the trail towards Planina Jezero. The higher I got, the more snow there was, and it snowed more and more. Fog lingered over spruce tops, only occasionally light mist descended to the path. The closer I got, the more hurried I was, I haven't been at this hut in winter for many years. When I step on the planina and see the hut I say to myself: here I am. I drink hot tea and head back to the valley with a pleasant feeling in my heart.

My colleague and I were there on Sunday. To planina pri jezeru the path is somewhat trampled and they also skied down to Vogar. Further from Planina pri Jezeru we walked a bit in the direction towards Planina v Lazu and Slatno, but there was lots of powder and our track probably is not visible much and possibly more snow fell since Sunday. For skiing it's quite OK, for walking it's quite strenuous. Well up to Planina pri Jezeru it's still quite OK.

End of this week heading to the Julijce, more precisely Bohinjska planina - Valley of Triglav Lakes - Komna, wondering if anyone can advise if I should take snowshoes or if the paths are already packed, trodden, trampled?? Looking at photos from last week's hikes but can't decide. Thanks for info! Regards, g.

For the weekend quite a thaw is forecast and without snowshoes no way into untrampled heavy snow.

Hey! Wondering if you can drive a personal car to Planina Blato. Do you need chains, possible without or no way at all? Last time, like a month ago I made it without. Planning to go up Friday. Thanks.

With personal car without chains today no go. There was a SUV parked at the top. Probably ok with chains. Recommend snowshoes or touring skis too. From Planina Jezero onwards not trodden.

Yesterday from Sv. Janez via Vogar, Blato, to Planina Jezero. Morning to Vogar no problems, path mostly cleared of fallen trees too. Then to Blato parking, more "fun" sinking through though, to Vogar-Blato junction still somehow ok, from there to parking pure sinking (would give full thumbs up for snowshoes). From there to Jezero it went ok, thanks to touring skiers' track. Huge snow at the pasture, meet the warden at the hut who came to check conditions. Nice chat. On return to Blato parking no issues, then higher temps did their thing and it was pretty strenuous all the way to the valley. Hut at Vogar open (weekends). Road to Blato I feel won't be drivable for a while, no sledding tracks either. From Vogar to Jezero met two snowshoers and two skiers (board) that was all, great but strenuous trip.

A bit dusty thread, let's dust it off a bit. Path over Vogar is dry and no issues, except last 15 min of walking still some snow but no problems. Further from the hut still quite some snow and with touring skis you could make a nice trip. Don't know about road to Blato but based on other conditions I'd say it's dry (just a guess).
