On Saturday, we encountered a herd of ibex while descending from Turška gora via Kotliče. They were lying on the path and beside it. There were cca. 16 of them. We could observe them peacefully, because they didn't show excessive fear of random human passing hikers. This is quite a rare moment to view such a herd of wild animals up close.
Therefore I'm also posting some shots (with my son we used this rare moment and made quite a few shots)

I was given to see the most beautiful ibex on Božji police. So close I didn't dare reach for the camera, so they wouldn't get scared. Sitting and enjoying, then they come a couple meters below me. Really magnificent view.

That herd probably withdrew before the approaching thunderstorm coming from Gorenjska. They were enjoying the warm sun and resting, when the lookout whistled (first photo) they just moved a bit. Didn't show any excessive eagerness to flee. My son and I withdrew when we were photographing a big buck guarding higher up from the rest of the herd and started sharpening his horns on rocks and later stood up and directed attention at us.

Yesterday 30.7.2008 we probably saw the same ibex on the ridge between Koroška and Kranjska Rinka. Mostly they were lying and resting, two were butting heads with horns. Although we came to about 3-4m close they didn't mind our presence.

If you want to feast your eyes on ibex, I suggest the path to Špik Hude police, the peak between Viš and Montaž. Ibex are in abundance, especially females with young. On top of Špik one was grazing undisturbed a meter from us, or licking the rock. But if you want to see adult males, then below the top of Špik go on the Terarossa path (I think that's the name), which goes right and leads you to the next saddle, where these animals stay. The path is not demanding, except for the elevation difference, and nice views of Kanin range too.

Cima Terarossa is the Italian name for Špik Hude police, that path is called Cheria-Merlone and ends at Škrbina Prednje Špranje, magnificent traverse. Otherwise the most ibex are usually under Montaž on the path towards Velika polica - bivak Suringar.

And also this - previous pictures show that ibex are graceful kings of rocky heights. This picture as if confirms their self-confidence that they are the locals here, humans just occasional visitors ...

Go to Bovški gamsovec! I don't know why it's called gamsovec - but there are so many ibex there. Really kings of rocky heights, as Davorin mentioned. They fear no one and that's right!
We recharge our batteries just watching and admiring them. Fantastic! I also made shots almost for half an album and it's a pleasure to watch them at home in the armchair too.
Chamois I spotted on Vrtača and below Begunjščica. Yes, there were chamois.

The ibex on the bottle of Laški Zeleni is also magnificent. Given the popularity of "his" new boss, he will most likely replace it in the future with his own "likeness". Then I will stop enjoying it.
