@ bagi Thanks for sharing these unique pictures also with us ; I hope my wish will come true someday and I'll see them also "live" in their environment, where the terrain is more accessible for me; lp

There is no more easily accessible environment for viewing ibex live than under Montasio. Suitable also for "Sunday hikers" with less fitness.

Almost can't believe it's possible ... but it is, I myself haven't had such an experience with so many ibex nearby, (well they are a bit different ), actually never met them so close, last time on the way to Triglav from Dolič under the notch, but from farther away. Chamois we meet quite often, under Storžič also mouflons who didn't let themselves be photographed, but this majestic animal ... when will I meet them so close. Wonderful pictures. Best!

Really nice! By which path did you climb to the mountain to take these? Best

Macesen 1, can you write more precisely where under Montasio are such "ibex spots"? We were on Sunday at Špik Hude police and really enjoyed the company of females and young, but no such adult majestic specimens there. Are these on the same side of Montasio (Pl. Pecol)? And what does "under Montasio" mean? Accessible for children? Thanks in advance!

All that is to the Z of the mentioned path, on grassy slopes and screes under the J wall of Montasio. The only problem is the huge crowds rolling towards Montasio causing noise and thus scaring the animals.

Nice that you like the pictures and thanks for the congratulations . It looks like it made your heart skip a beat too, just like mine. I was even granted the chance to walk among these ibex as part of the herd and couldn't wish for more . You just have to be early, because later they retreat before the crowds. Most pictures taken a bit further from the saddle where the branch to Ozebnik or the usual access is. To here it's 2.5 hours and suitable for children. Some pictures from Ozebnik, some from the summit ridge. If anyone is interested in something specific, just ask Bagi

Vrh Strmali under Montasio is the real place for ibex, sometimes they move under Vrh Brda and under Špik above the avalanche cone, or towards Velika Polica, now in autumn they'll go also under Zabuš and under Špik above the nose. But the most beautiful specimens stay on Strma Peč (Monte Cimone) they are more or less tame and don't fear humans too much, so it's no art to photograph them and walk among them. For me still the most beautiful are on Plemenice.

Well, from my experience most of them stay on south-facing slopes between the top of Krni Dol and Nižnji Vrhovi. There I surprised a whole herd mainly adult males and then quietly walked slowly among them. I climbed there directly from the saddle Passo dei Scalini to the ridge of Karnega Dola, but a very easy access leads from the pasture also along the south slope. Many of them also on the whole path Ceria Merlone and Leva but there it's already another story in the rocks and not for everyone.

I think we all agree that there are plenty of male ibex and female ibex with young throughout the entire Montaž and Viš group up to the White Waters. But you can't always stumble upon such groups. For that, even despite knowing the places where they hang out, you still need enough luck. Likewise, I won't write anything wrong if I say that for the average mountaineer or tourist hiker there's no better spot and easy access than from the Pecol pasture to the already mentioned saddle Forca dei Disteis, which rises left above the pasture. You can get here even with kids and with a bit of luck they'll see at least female ibex with young, maybe even more. 2.5 hours. Nothing more Bagi

A few years ago it was possible to see larger groups of ibex near the hut at Kriški Podi. They came really close because people were offering them food scraps. Lately you only see individual specimens. Maybe someone knows why? There was talk of a disease that decimated the herds. But this year I met four adult males on the path between Hribarice and Dolič.

Thanks JanaG They really are interesting when they don't move off the path and let you know that they are the bosses here. Of course I had nothing against it, otherwise such shots wouldn't have been taken at all. I hope you'll have such an opportunity too (or maybe you already do), because then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Regards, Bagi

He,he, JanaG. You wrote nicely . Cows are cute too, especially when they look at you so innocently . If you plan to meet mountain goats and need some advice, you know where to find me . Regards, Bagi
